BRAVE & HARDY SOULS DEFY THE WEATHER TO GET GAMES PLAYED

With weekend frost and heavy rain to contend with, only a handful of the scheduled games took place in the League, and those who did play deserve great credit.

No games took place in the Premier Division, but in the First, Hewett OB’s took the opportunity to move up to second spot as Lewis Warnes, Callum Speck, Callum Wiley and Lee Roper-Smith all scored in a 4-1 win over Windmill Wanderers. Phoenix FC scored eight without reply at home to Norman Wanderers Res, whilst Aslacton also hit eight in their win at Rose Athletic.

In Division 2, Vale Longo probably wish that the bad weather had intervened as the conceded double figures at home to Mischief FC, a result that saw the visitors go level on points with leaders Woolpack.

The game between Harleston Town and Acle Rangers Res in Division 3 was abandoned due to snow, but in Division 4, leaders AFC Norwich increased the gap at the top by recording a 4-0 win at Sporting Iceni, whilst there was a second victory of the season for Woodton United as they won 5-0 at Rackheath Rangers.

In Division 5, table toppers Easton saw a 3-1 lead evaporate as they went down 6-3 at Qube, a result that moved the home side up to second place.

In the Under 19’s Heigham Park Rangers and Old Catton deserve praise for switching venues as they moved to the all weather surface at the Open Academy to complete the fixture. It proved to be an even better decision for Catton as they moved to the top of the table after a 4-0 win. Long Stratton scored ten (Bemrose 3, Scammell 3, Maloney 2, Gower, Fadden) when winning at Mulbarton Wanderers and remain third whilst St Andrews had a good 8-2 win at Hellesdon. Acle rangers also had a result to be pleased with as they scored five of the eight goals in their game with Cringleford.

As we now seem to be moving into a spell of bad weather, its worth pointing out to club secretaries, especially new ones, that there is a page in the League Handbook with information on what to in the case of bad weather. Some people seem to be a touch confused of what to do, reading this page will give you the answers. All secretaries have had a copy of the handbook since the AGM and it is also available on the League website.
