OWN GOAL SINKS NORMAN FINAL DREAMS

Norman Wanderers suffered heartache in their Sunday Senior Cup semi final replay at the home of Yarmouth side El Sol. Normans took the lead on the stroke of time from a belting free kick by Ben Abrahams twenty five yards out. Normans, urged on by a sizeable support continued to look the better side after the break, and had chances to increase the lead. The home side only really threatened from set peices and it was from a corner that they equalised with a header. The last half hour was pretty even but with ten minutes left a defensive mix up saw a Norman centre back header the ball past his own keeper, a blow from which the visitors never recovered. Normans and their supporters were a credit to the league on the day. El Sol now meet Marlborough in the Carrow Road Final

END OF AN ERA
END OF AN ERA AS LEAGUE SECRETARY STEPS DOWN

After 28 years, Alan Williams has stood down as secretary of the Norwich Sunday League. After giving his final annual report at this year's AGM, Alan received rapturous applause from  league secretary's old and new. Life President Ray Kiddell praised his contribution to the league over the years. Alan will not be leaving the committee though as he will still carry on as Treasurer and Assistant Secretary for the coming season. Ben Casey was elected General Secretary to take over from Alan and has pledged to do the job to the best of his ability, and knows he has a tough act to follow. There was also a new member added to the committee, and the league welcomes Chris Aldrich, a man with vast experience in local football, on board. Twelve new clubs were elected to the league and are as follows : Hellesdon Ath Res, Sporting Longdale Res, Hockering, Wellington Pink Un's, Sprowston Royal Oak, Kings Arms, Spixworth Sunday Res, Earlham United Res, Wendene Wanderers, Heartsease FC, Maid Marian and Constitution FC. We wish them well. To all clubs, have a good summer.
