LAST MINUTE LEVELLER PUTS WYMONDHAM TOP

A last minute goal for Wymondham Rangers saw them go top of the Premier Division after a lively encounter at Britannia Barracks. I watched the game and saw two goals from Romano put the home side in a strong position, but a good strike by Culum Webb set up a tense finish which saw the visitors miss a penalty before the last minute equaliser. Poringland are a point behind Wymondham after winning 7-1 at Salhouse and Marlborough won 3-1 at Norman Wanderers to go third. AFC LEAVE IT LATE

There were fewer league games this week due to the first rounds of the various County Cups, but those that were played produced plenty of entertainment. In the Premier division, goals by Vaughan Stevenson and David Munro had given Poringland a 2 goal lead, but an own goal for the home side gave them a new lease of life and Aaron Nixon equalised to set up a tense finish which saw Luke Tuttle score what proved to be the winner minutes from time. Poringland missed a glorious chance to take a point in injury time. The other game in that division saw Wymondham Rangers beat nine man Dog House 3-1. Jimmy McCloy was outstanding for the home side scoring twice, whilst the third came from James Wells. Dog House secretary Ian Lythgoe was full of praise for his side, but said the three goals conceded were a touch sloppy.

In 1A a Shaun Swatman hat trick helped Norwich Busmen to a good 4-0 win over Norman Wanderers Res. Matt Sewell scored the fourth, whilst the North Norfolk derby between Aylsham Black Boys and North Walsham ended goalless. Hillside OB produced a better performance in 1B, but still went down 2-1 at home to Unicorns for whom Lee Warr and Jordan Butterfant scored whilst Daniel Shevlin scored for Hillside. There was a thriller at Drayton where the home side came from two goals down to take a point in a three all draw against Sprowston Wanderers for whom Adam Maxey, Nick Spelman and Adam Moffat scored. Costessey Sports scored four times in the second half to beat Manor Park. Substitute Scott Woodgate scored twice whilst further goals came from Shane Brett and Kevin Tate. Daniel Childerhouse scored early on as Earlham United thumped Haig FC 7-1. Defender Daniel Davies scored twice including a great solo effort starting from his own half. Scott west also scored twice and further goals were added by Simon Cullabine and Simon Hailey.

In 2A, Plasterers Arms went down 3-1 at home to Green Man, whilst an injury time winner saw Vale Longo take the points in a 3-2 win over Acle Wanderers. Pete Crowley, Gavin Powley and Kevin Brown scored for vale whilst Jimmy Cator and a superb Tom White strike replied for the visitors. A well fought, competitive game saw The Griffen go two ahead at home to Spixworth United, thanks to goals from Osa Odeh and Alex Ingham. Lee Cosgrove reduced the arrears from the penalty spot but Colin Ncube restored the two goal cushion with ten minutes left. Ian Bird netted for the visitors in the closing minutes but the home side held on. Reepham literally went to town when they thumped Coachmakers arms 11-1. B. Howard and N Gaskin helped themselves to hat tricks whilst J. Hynd, J Bonner, J Page, J Harrington and an own goal were the other scorers. William Smart scored a consolation goal for the visitors. Another high scoring game saw Aslacton beat Deopham 6-1. Paul Macisaac put Deopham ahead early on but the home side hit back with goals from Lloyd Miller (2) Shaun Moss (2) Daniel Rout and Trish Docherty. Yet another stirring comeback was produced, this time in 2B. Goals by Jordan Rocastle (2) and Shah Mahboobinik saw PL Rangers go three up against Ribs of Beef before Michael Robinson, Ramin Fakour-Zaker and a late Ian Robotham strike gained a point for Ribs. Julian Bussell (2), Geoff Handley (2) Robbie Simmonds and Darren Ward all scored as Acle Rangers hit six without reply against Costessey Sports Res, whilst strikes by Tom Daynes, and Sean Dugdale (2) saw Sprowston Rovers complete an early season double with a 3-2 victory at Poringland Wanderers Res. Old Catton beat The Gordon 3-0 in a game The Gordon, described as interesting.                                                                                                                                                         In 3A, C. Murrel, L Willis and M Bruce scored for Upton who were relieved not to have thrown their three goal lead away as home side The Reindeer fought back. Goals by Gary Collins and Terry Fordham were not enough to grab a point. Both sides were full of praise for the unofficial referee which is very good to hear. Official referee Norman Christmas was also given extremely high marks by both sides as Stoke FC beat DCS Rapid 2-1. DCS felt they dominated the game but despite scoring through Lawrence Keelty they could not match the goals scored by Lewis Clary and Joel Hansen for Stoke. It was nil nil at half time, but Heartsease Casuals scored six without reply in the second half against Temple Bar, the goals coming from Joe Woodcock (3) Benedict Potts (2) and Daniel Tolliday. Liam Stockell scored four times as Dereham Wanderers beat Mad Moose 6-1 in a highly entertaining game. Tom Spalding and Peter Hook were also on target as Rickey Averill scored for Moose. There were sporting comments from Bystanders (Bestway Taxis) as opponents Newsman Celtic hit the goal trail. Daren Francis (2) Chris Durrant and Jim Rice scored for Celtic but the outstanding performance came from Robbie Powell who scored six times and was denied more by some outstanding goalkeeping. Kevin Nunn, Trevor Eveson and Ben St Ruth scored consolation for Bystanders as the score ended 10-3. In 3B, M Plumstead equalised as Sporting Farmhouse drew 1-1 with AFC Rompers. Taverham United secretary reported that his side “never turned up” as they went down 3-1 to Bayer FC.    W Nelson (2) and D Watmore scored for Bayer. After losing two teams, Bertrams United and Champion Athletic from Division 1A last week, sadly, the league has to announce the withdrawal of a team from its Premier Division. Hethersett Athletic have informed the league that their first team will not be able to compete in the top division due to a lack of players. The clubs junior sides will continue to play in Divisions 3B and 4B
