In all, twelve League and four League Cup games survived another terrible bout of Sunday morning weather as clubs, players and officials suffered yet another frustrating weekend. Credit goes to the many clubs that either organised early inspections or tried everything they could to get their games played. Some teams were even changed and on the pitch before the games were called off and eight games actually started only to be abandoned by half time. The league thanks all clubs that did their best and lets hope for a change of fortune soon. Of the games that were played, Norwich Busmen moved up to second spot in 1A after a 2-0 win at Rose Valley Utd, whilst in 1B Prince of Denmark had a good 4-1 win at Unicorns and Haig FC thumped Hillside OB 11-3. Two games survived in 2A. Vale Longo moved back into second place after a 4-2 victory at The Castlegate and Reepham Town beat The Griffen 7-1 to go fourth. The only game in 2B saw the local derby between Sprowston Rovers and Old Catton end all square with a goal apiece. I donned my woolly hat and scarf, grabbed my umbrella and went to see 3A leaders Stoke FC against Newsman Celtic. As I arrived during the first half, the pitch resembled something of a boating lake. Both sides and referee David Bloomfield deserve great credit in getting the game played. It was played in a good spirit with both teams taking a common sense approach in the conditions. The home side took the lead just after half time, but Celtic continued to play with determination and deserved their equaliser two minutes from time. The Bystanders revival is back on track as they had a good 3-2 home win over DCS Rapid. Plenty of goals in the only 3B game where AFC Rompers drew 3-3 with Unicorns Res In 4A, Darren Spall, Steve Smith and Jonathan Batchelor all scored twice as Dancing Farmers beat 10 man AFC Mousehold 7-0, and Earlham Colney came back from Coltishall with all three points after beating Sporting Longdale Res 4-1. Heartsease FC went back to the top of 4B after a 2-0 home win over Hingham. In the Pink Un sponsored Sunday League Cup, Marlborough won their first round game at Salhouse 7-2, whilst in the second round Acle Rangers beat Norfolk CCSC 5-1, Norman Wanderers beat Earlham Utd 3-1 and AFC Wanderers scored nine (Luke Tuttle 4, Aaron Kay 3, Craig Vincent and Tim Henry) without reply at Costessey Sports Sunday.
MATCHES ON 21/02/10 AS IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS, CLUBS ARE ADVISED TO CHECK WITH THEIR OPPONENTS BEFORE TRAVELLING AYLSHAM HIT SIX TO OPEN GAP
Despite, what has proved to be a ridiculously early decision to call games off, there were still plenty of games played in the league this morning. The league are extremely disappointed with the postponement of some games as early as Thursday which has now left a fixture backlog that is becoming serious. This being the case, the league now really needs clubs whether, they play on public or private pitches, to do everything they can to get their games played. The one game that survived in the Premier Division saw Senior Cup finalists Dog House continue their improved form by winning 1-0 at Acle Rangers. In 1A, North Walsham moved into second spot after beating Windmill Wanderers 3-1, whilst Norwich CEYMS got back to winning ways, 3-1 at Hellesdon Ath. Goals by Van Raalte (2) and Dobson helped Hainford YCOB to a 3-3 draw at home to Rose Valley. The big game in 1B saw leaders Aylsham Sunday go to second placed Earlham Utd and come away with a 6-2 (Hall 2, Folks, Simms, Smith, Oliver) victory. Childerhouse and West scored for the home side. In the divisions other game, Costessey Sunday beat Sprowston Wanderers 3-2, a win that sees them six points behind Aylsham, but with five games in hand. The top of the table clash in 2A saw Green Man beat Vale Longo by the only goal, a result that allowed Norman Wanderers "A" to move into second spot after a 2-1 win over Spixworth Utd. There was a hat trick apiece for Lloyd Miller and Shaun Moss as Aslacton scored six without reply against Acle Wanderers and Reepham Town had a 5-0 home win over The Castlegate. Osa Odeh scored four times as The Griffen found their shooting boots thumping Coachmakers Arms 10-1 and well done to bottom side Plasterers Arms who had a 3-1 (Watson 2, Nixon) home win over Deopham. 2B leaders St Faiths had a narrow 1-0 win at Spixworth Sunday and are now four points clear of Old Catton who suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Acle Rangers Res. The Gordon had a 5-3 (Barnes 2, Dudley, Tracey and Parsley) victory against PL Rangers for whom Jordan Rocastle was again on target, and Ribs of Beef beat Horsford SC 4-1 Metcalf, Favour-Zaker 2, and Bennison the scorers. Goals by Danny Webster and Simon Curtis helped lift Poringland Res out of the bottom two as they beat Thorpe Rovers 2-0. In 3A, Ryan Hatch and Justin Cameron were on target as leaders Stoke FC had a very good 2-1 victory at Dereham Wanderers and goals by Ulph and Cotton helped Upton stay in second place as they beat Heartsease Casuals 2-1. Sporting Longdale brought an end to Bystanders recent good form, beating them 5-2 and after receiving the league's Sporting Award for December, DCS Rapid went on to beat Mad Moose 6-0 thanks to goals from Lawrence Keelty 2, Nick Weavers, Paul Bridge, Neal Gardner and Dimas Verdu Carillo. With none of the top three in league action, attention in 3B was focused at the bottom where Aylsham Res beat Dynamo Denmark 5-1 (Major 4, Brown) and Unicorns Res beat Wilco Fast Fit by the same score. Taverham Utd's good run continued with a 3-1 (Paulin 2, Abbott) win at Moles Rest and Hethersett Res beat AFC Rompers by the odd goal of five. There was a fourteenth straight league win for Wellington Pink Uns as they won 3-0 at Earlham Colney, but Sprowston Royal Oak's 6-1 (Maxey, Halliday, Green 2, Newstead and Armstrong) win over Sporting Longdale Res means they are still only two points behind the leaders. Dancing Farmers are third after a 3-1 (Smith, Brazell and Harris-Wright) victory over Silver Fox Res and Ian Babb and Elliot Winter were amongst the goals as Kings Arms won 4-2 at Hockering. Norwich Airport had a 4-1 win over bottom side AFC Mousehold. With Heartsease FC inactive, Earlham Utd Res took the opportunity to go top of 4B by beating Maid Marian 4-0 although the visitors felt a little aggrieved at having three goals disallowed. Salhouse Res beat Hingham 4-1 and the game between Hethersett "A" and AFC Oak ended in a 2-2 draw with Robert Bridge scoring twice for AFC.
PARKS PITCHES OFF THIS WEEKEND 14/02/10

QUEBEC HIT BACK TO STUN LEADERS
Quebec Rovers gained ground on Premier Division leaders The Grove when they came from behind to win 3-2. Farin Deeba scored twice for the home side in what was described as a cracking game. Wymondham Rangers remain in second spot after scoring with the very last kick of the game to win 3-2 at Poringland Wanderers. A late change of home venue made little difference to Silver Fox who beat Acle Rangers 4-0. In 1A, Norman Wanderers Res thumped Hellesdon Athletic 9-2 and are four points clear of Norwich Busmen who beat Windmill Wanderers 5-2. North Walsham are a point behind in third after beating Unthank Arms 6-2 and there was a good win for Hainford YCOB at Norwich Ceyms where Mark Critten scored the only goal of the game. Costessey Sports won 5-1 at bottom side Mattishall YCOB and Sprowston Wanderers hit eight without reply against Hillside OB. Haig FC also kept a clean sheet when beating Manor Park 7-0. 2A leaders Green Man suffered a set back, going down 1-0 at home to Aslacton. Vale Longo's 4-2 (Crowley, Holl, Harvey & OG) win at Reepham puts them into second spot on goal difference from Norman Wanderers "A" who won 4-0 at Acle Wanderers. Spixworth Utd beat bottom side Plasterers Arms 2-1. St Faiths are the new leaders of 2B after a 2-1 win over Sprowston Rovers. Horsford SC completed a double over Old Catton when they won 4-2 and Acle Res are fourth after beating Poringland Res 4-2 The Gordon beat Spixworth Sunday 4-3 and Jordan Rocastle scored six times as PL Rangers say they produced their best football in five years when beating Thorpe Rovers 13-2. Two quick goals by Clarry and Seager put Stoke ahead in their top of the table clash with Upton in 3A. England pulled one back for the visitors, but a resolute home defence held on. Third placed The Otter drew 3-3 with Dereham Wanderers and DCS Rapid won 6-4 at Temple Bar. The Reindeer scored the only goal of the game at Newsman Celtic and Sporting Longdale scored five without reply at Heartsease Casuals. The Bystanders resurgence continues as they won 2-0 at Mad Moose to lift themselves off the bottom of the table for the first time this season. 3B leaders Mischief Tavern suffered a shock as they saw Taverham United come from 3-1 down to beat them 4-3. EXTRA TIME WINNER SETS UP ALL NORWICH FINAL
An extra time winner by Neil Simmons gave Dog House a place in the Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup Final as the Norwich side overcame last seasons beaten finalists El Sol 1-0. Dog House will face fellow Norwich Sunday League Premier division side AFC Wanderers who beat Prince of Denmark of 1B, 3-0. Luke Tuttle set AFC on their way with a stunning effort, which was then followed by two goals by Aaron Kay. The final is due to take place at Carrow Rd on Sunday March 7th at 11am.
QUEBEC AIM TO PLAY CATCH UP
Premier Division leaders The Grove face a stern test of their title credentials when they face Quebec Rovers on Sunday. Despite only being in fourth place Quebec are nine points behind the leaders with five games in hand. Uppermost in the minds of the home side is the 7-0 mauling they received at Britannia Barracks in November but manager Steve Greening has no thoughts of revenge, he’s just looking to win the game. “We went two down at their place and so we went for broke and paid the price said Steve “but they are a good side”. Sam Mallet will be hoping to add to his thirteen goals as the team look to continue the form that saw them beat second placed Wymondham Rangers 4-1 last time out. Quebec’s Neil Reid, who along with Steve Brock runs the side, said the previous game counts for nothing as the game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested. “We were poor in our last game against Norman and deserved to lose and although we have the games in hand we are trying to get into the player’s heads that it doesn’t mean they are points on the board”. Quebec will be looking to Richard Brett and Dave Mathews to continue their prolific partnership up front in what should be a cracking game at The Gurney Centre. Other divisions this week with games of interest see Unicorns take on Earlham Utd in 1B, Green Man face Aslacton in 2A and there could be a lively local derby at St Faiths where the third placed side take on second placed Sprowston Rovers. 3A throws up top v second as Upton travel to Stoke FC and the big game in 4A is at Hellesdon Reserves who take on Sprowston Royal Oak. The 4B table makes interesting reading as only four points separate the top six. Heartsease at home to Maid Marian could be the game to watch
LEAGUE HOPES FOR ALL NORWICH FINAL This weekend see's the semi finals of the Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup. The league are guaranteed at least one side in the final as Prince of Denmark of Division 1B take on Premier Division AFC Wanderers, in what promises to be a fascinating clash. Our other representatives, Dog House, travel to Yarmouth where they face El Sol, conquerors of Marlborough in the last round. This will be a stiff task for the Norwich side and the league wishes all the Norwich sides the best of luck
31/01/10 ONCE AGAIN, DUE TO THE WEATHER, THERE WERE NO LEAGUE FIXTURES PLAYED THIS MORNING THE GROVE BOUNCE BACK
After all the bad weather in recent weeks it was good to get an almost full fixture list played this morning. In the Premier division, leaders The Grove bounced back from last weeks defeat when they beat second placed Wymondham Rangers 4-1 thanks to goals from Clarke, Balls and Mallet. The Silver Fox are still third despite giving away a two goal lead at AFC Wanderers for whom Nixon 2, and Kay were on target. Norman Wanderers had a good 2-0 win at Quebec Rovers, whilst the game between Poringland and Acle Rangers was goal less. In 1A, Norman Res, increased their lead at the top with a 5-0 win over Unthank Arms, whilst Windmill Wanderers overcame Norwich CEYMS winning by the odd goal of nine. 1B leaders Norfolk CCSC were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Earlham Utd, substitute Cullabine scoring for the visitors. In 2B St Faiths scored the only goal of the game to beat Ribs of Beef and Horsford beat PL Rangers 6-3, with Rocastle claiming a hat trick for Rangers. Acle Res drew 2-2 with Spixworth Sunday, and a goal deep into stoppage time gave Poringland Res a point in a 3-3 draw at The Gordon. Lish, Ulph and Willis helped 3A leaders Upton stay top after a 3-1 win at The Otter. Stoke are second after a 6-0 (Clarry 3, Piggin 2 and Lahfa) win at Temple Bar, whilst Sporting Longdale produced a good performance to beat DCS Rapid 4-1. There was an amazing game at Heartsease Casuals where the home side scored five but conceded ten against Mad Moose, and well done to Bystanders, who came from 2-0 down to beat The Reindeer 3-2 thus collecting their first points of the season. Gray 2, and Lasky the scorers whilst Aston and Chamberlain scored for the home side. Mischief increased their lead at the top of 3B, winning 6-3 at Wilco Fast Fit, but Sporting Farmhouse lost ground, when they lost at AFC Rompers to the only goal. Brickmakers won 5-1 at Norwich Airport and Sporting Longdale Res gained their first points of the season in emphatic style, winning 6-1 at AFC Mousehold. It’s oh so tight in 4B with only four points separating the top six sides. Despite playing with only ten men due to late call offs, Maid Marian won 2-0 at AFC Oak and were also full of praise for referee D. Bloomfield. Heartsease FC moved up to second after a 4-1 (Whitmore, Critchlow, Lewis and Perry)win over Constitution and next are Earlham Utd Res who won 5-1 at Spixworth Sunday Res. Freethorpe scored three without reply against Hethersett "A" and Hingham had a narrow 3-2 win at Felmingham. Salhouse Res thumped Wendene Wanderers 8-1. Our clubs suffered mixed fortunes in the County Cups. Holders Marlborough went out of the Sunday Senior Cup after losing 3-1 to El Sol from Yarmouth. Dog House will now face El Sol after winning 3-1 against Costessey Sports and Prince of Denmark earned a semi final place against AFC Wanderers after beating Norwich Busmen 3-2. In the Intermediate Cup Old Catton and Aslacton crashed out losing 4-1 and 5-1 respectively so Bayer are now our only representatives after they beat Dereham Wanderers 3-1(aet). Wellington Pink Uns failed to join Sprowston Royal Oak in the semi final of the Junior Cup when they lost 2-1 to Riverside Gardens.
