 NORMAN CONQUEST STUNS QUEBEC

Many people's tip for the Premier Division, Quebec Rovers were given a wake up call, as they crashed to a 5-0 defeat at Norman Wanderers. Gauntlet, Bales and Joy 3, all received late call ups from the reserves and proved their worth by hitting the target. Tuttle scored twice for AFC Wanderers as they drew 2-2 at Dog House.

In 1A, North Walsham Town closed the gap at the top to one point as they beat Norwich CEYMS 2-1. Norwich Busmen dropped to third as they were held to a goal less draw at Hainford YCOB. In the bottom of the table clash Rose Valley won 2-1 at Unthank Arms. Costessey Sports are the new leaders of 2A after a 2-0 victory over Haig FC. Norfolk CCSC beat Drayton 3-2 thanks to goals by Roberts and Woodcock (2), whilst Sprowston Wanderers won 2-0 at Unicorns. Well done to Mattishall YCOB who gained their first win of the season, 5-1 over Prince of Denmark.

Green Man went back to the top of 2A after hitting eight without reply against Coachmakers Arms, whilst Reepham went down 4-2 at Aslacton. Norman Wanderers "A" made it a good day for the club, winning 3-2 at The Griffen, for whom Whitlam and Odeh were on target, whilst goals by N. Stannard, Ethridge and P. Stannard 2, gave Deopham and 4-3 win at Acle Wanderers for whom Catchpole, Yaxley and Flint replied. The Castlegate and Spixworth Utd shared the points in a 2-2 draw. St Faiths won the big game in 2B, 2-1 against Acle Rangers Res and are now three points clear at the top. Horsford SC and Sprowston Rovers drew 2-2 and The Gordon beat Ribs of Beef 3-2. Sewell, Winter and Barnes scored for the home side with Bennison and Robinson replying. PL Rangers suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Spixworth Sunday, but were full of praise for referee Mark Smythe.

An own goal and Seager hat trick ensured that Stoke FC continue to lead 3A as they won 4-1 at Bystanders. Third placed DCS Rapid became the first side to complete their fixtures for the season as they beat The Otter 2-1(Weavers and Davis) and The Reindeer were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Sporting Longdale. McGregor, Sears, Woodcock and Bradley were all on target as Heartsease Casuals won 4-1 at Newsman Celtic and I was on hand to see Mad Moose score a dramatic late equaliser as they drew 4-4 with Temple Bar. Bayer FC march on at the top of 3B, winning 7-2 at Aylsham Sunday Res, whilst Sporting Farmhouse scraped past Wilco Fast Fit 3-2. Hethersett Res are fourth after a 5-1 win at Moles Rest and Taverham beat AFC Rompers 2-1. Rompers had levelled the scores deep into injury time but Periera popped up to grab a winner with seconds to go. Unicorns Res had a good 4-2 victory at Dynamo Denmark.

Wellington Pink Uns put last weeks setback behind them when scoring five without reply at Dancing Farmers, and keep a two point lead over Sprowston Royal Oak at the top of 4A. Sprowston themselves had a 5-2 (Bowles 2, D.Maxey, Doyle and Butcher) victory at The Brickmakers. Hockering are third after a 3-1 win at Norwich Airport and Hellesdon Ath Res scored ten as they won at Sporting Longdale Res. AFC Mousehold went down 7-1 at home to Silver Fox Res. Heartsease FC went three clear at the top of 4B after beating Felmingham 8-1 (Lewis 3, Critchlow 2, Whitmore, Daynes and og) whilst AFC Oak drew level on points with second placed Earlham Utd Res after beating them 4-2 thanks to goals by Brewster 2, Ratcliffe and Wickham and good to see another referee, Ian Conway, receiving praise. Hingham won by the odd goal in seven against Constitution and Hethersett won by the odd goal of five at Salhouse Rovers Res. Freethorpe won 2-1 at home to Wendene Wanderers.

The remaining second round games of the Pink Un League Cup were played and saw The Grove beat Wymondham Rangers 3-1(Balls, Lewis Greening and Mallet) and Aylsham Sunday progressed after beating Windmill Wanderers 7-2. I watched the game at Eaton Park where goals by Elwin 2, and Barnes 2, saw Poringland beat Marlborough 4-0 in a game very well refereed by Paul Burnham.

WELLINGTON'S PERFECT RECORD BITES THE DUST

The Grove missed the chance to open up a gap at the top of the Premier Division when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Poringland. VandenBergh put the visitors in front only for Mallet to level. It could have been worse for the leaders though as Poringland also missed a penalty. Silver Fox went down 4-2 at Quebec and Acle Rangers had a good 6-3 win at Norman Wanderers. Dog House continue to rise after beating Salhouse Rovers 5-1.

There were only two games in 1A, North Walsham and Hellesdon Ath shared the points after a 1-1 draw, whilst goals by Wade and Van Raalte gave Hainford YCOB a 2-0 win at Unthank Arms. Aylsham Sunday continue to lead 1B after a 4-0 victory at home to Unicorns whilst Earlham Utd are second thanks to a 5-0 (Brown 2, Bee, West and George) at Hillside OB. Earlham are one of three teams on 32 points. The other two are Costessey Sports who won 3-0 at Drayton and Norfolk CCSC who had a 4-0 win at Manor Park. Sprowston Wanderers won 4-1 at Prince of Denmark and Haig thumped twelve past eight man Mattishall YCOB.

Vale Longo top 2A after a very good 5-3 ( Forwood, Archer, Crowley, Powley and Drake) win against Aslacton, and are now two points clear of Green Man who were held to a 1-1 draw at home to The Castlegate. Reepham Town are closing in on the top two after a 3-1 win at Acle Wanderers, whilst Stannard and Kirby were on target for Deopham as they beat Spixworth Utd 2-1. The Griffen hit five without reply at Plasterers Arms. In 2B, second placed St Faiths came from 3-0 down to beat Spixworth Sunday 4-3 and Acle Rangers remain on level points with St Faiths after beating Horsford SC2-1. Sprowston Rovers thumped six past The Gordon whilst Rocastle 2, Lofty 2, Bradfield and Lake all scored as PL Rangers won a see-saw battle at Poringland Res 6-4.

The big game in 3A saw leaders Stoke beat third placed The Otter thanks to goals by Hatch, Dooley and Lahfa. Second placed Upton won 2-0 (Nelson, Elvin) at home to Newsman Celtic and Sporting Longdale won 4-3 at Mad Moose. Bystanders and Temple Bar shared the points after a six goal thriller at The Hewett. Bayer FC are now strong favourites to take the 3B title after they won 4-2 at nearest challengers Mischief Tavern. Third placed Sporting Farmhouse won 2-0 at Dynamo Denmark and Taverham Utd won at Unicorns Res by the same score. Wymondham Res won 5-0 at Wilco Fast Fit and Hethersett Res came back from Aylsham Res with all three points after winning 3-1. Moles Rest gained quick revenge for last week's defeat as they beat AFC Rompers 6-2.

I predicted that it would be a tough test to their one hundred per cent record and it proved to be the case as 4A leaders Wellington Pink Uns finally tasted defeat when they went down 2-1 at home to nearest rivals Sprowston Royal Oak. This result should make the run in very interesting. Dancing Farmers were held to a 2-2 draw by Brickmakers, Virgin and Woodward scoring for Farmers, and Kings Arms beat AFC Mousehold 5-1. Hockering are fifth after a 5-0 win over Sporting Longdale Res and Hellesdon Ath beat Norwich Airport by the same score. Earlham Colney came away from Sloughbottom with three points after a 3-1 against Silver Fox Res. With 4B leaders Heartsease FC without a game, Earlham Utd Res missed the chance to take over at the top when they were thumped 4-1 at Hingham Ath. Maid Marian came from two down to take a point a Felmingham thanks to goals by manager Laxton and Bone and Constitution scored seven (Howe 4, Messenger 2 and Patel) when beating Hethersett "A". Finally well done to Wendene Wanderers who gained their first victory of the season, 3-1 at Spixworth Sunday Res.

AFC GOOD FORM CONTINUES

Only three games prevented the Norwich Sunday league completing a full schedule this morning. Of the three games called off, two were very early and one pitch was deemed unfit by the referee.

In the Premier Division AFC Wanderers continued their good form scoring ten (Tuttle 3, Wright 2, Kay, Peacher, Finch, Watson and Vincent) without reply against Salhouse Rovers. Acle Rangers also kept a clean sheet as they thumped reigning champions Marlborough 6-0, whilst Norman Wanderers were held to a 2-2 draw by the improving Dog House.

Norman Wanderers Res missed the chance to increase their lead at the top of 1A after they went down 2-1 at Norwich CEYMS and at the other end of the table, Hellesdon Ath had a crucial 5-3 victory over Unthank Arms. Earlham Utd are second in 1B after a 2-0 win over Prince of Denmark and are followed by Costessey Sports who drew 1-1 at Unicorns. Haig FC had a good 5-3 home win over Norfolk CCSC and Manor Park closed the gap on Hillside OB at the bottom, after beating them 2-1.

In 2A, morning leaders Green Man were beaten 1-0 at Reepham, a result that saw Vale Longo take over at the top thanks to a 4-1 (Dhaliwal, Crowley, Woods and Powley) victory over The Griffen. With plenty of games in hand Aslacton lurk dangerously after winning 4-0 at Coachmakers Arms, whilst Spixworth Sunday put seven past an Acle Wanderers side that finished with only nine men due to injuries. Well done to Plasterers Arms who moved off the bottom of the table after a 2-1 win at The Castlegate thanks to goals by Watson and Gardiner. Game of the day was in 2B where the top two, St Faiths and Old Catton fought out a 3-3 draw. Sprowston Rovers suffered a setback going down 3-1 at home to PL Rangers for whom Rocastle 2, and Lofty were on target. Ribs of Beef beat Spixworth Sunday 4-2 and Horsford SC continued their scoring streak after winning 8-1 at The Gordon.

Goals by Cameron 2, and Piggin gave 3A leaders Stoke FC a hard fought win over Heartsease Casuals for whom Woodcock and Bradley replied. Second placed Upton had a 3-0 (Ulph, Glen and Nelson) home win over Sporting Longdale and The Otter are third after beating Bystanders 3-0. DCS Rapid's bid for promotion faltered again. Despite taking the lead from a Keelty screamer, the home side, Newsman Celtic, fought back to equalise. The Reindeer had a 2-0 (Chamberlain and Ashton) win at home to Mad Moose. In 3B, leaders Bayer FC went to Wilco Fast Fit and won 12-2, whilst after two defeats Mischief returned to winning ways, 6-1 at Sporting Farmhouse. Taverham are fourth after winning 4-0 at Dynamo Denmark and Hethersett Res won 2-1 at Unicorns Res. AFC Rompers had a good 4-2 win over Moles Rest, whilst Wymondham Res came back from Aylsham Res with a 1-0 victory in the bag.

AFC Mousehold produced their best performance of the season, but still went down to unbeaten 4A leaders Wellington Pink Un's 3-1. Sprowston Royal Oak hit five without reply against Norwich Airport and Dancing Farmers had a 2-1 (Smith 2) victory at Sporting Longdale Res. Kings Arms hit six whilst winning at Earlham Colney and Hockering beat Brickmakers 3-1. Hellesdon Ath Res had a good 6-2 win at Silver Fox Res. 4B leaders Heartsease hit five at Spixworth Sunday Res and head Earlham Utd Res, who beat Freethorpe 6-1,on goal difference. AFC Oak beat Salhouse Res 3-2 (Bridge 2 and Ratcliffe) and Maid Marion drop to fourth after losing 3-1 at home to Constitution. Hingham won 3-1 at Hethersett "A" and Felmingham beat Wendene 3-0.

The Pink Un sponsored Sunday League Cup got underway again and the 1st round game between 1B leaders Aylsham Sunday and Premier Division Silver Fox ended in a surprise 3-0 win for the home side. Wymondham Rangers won 12-1 at Mattishall YCOB, whilst I watched an entertaining game at Poringland where Sprowston Wanderers keeper Paul Walton produced an outstanding performance as his side went down 2-0. Both sides missed numerous chances but goals by Elwin and Farrow saw the home side through. Of the 2nd round games played, Quebec went through after scoring eight without reply at Drayton and Norwich Busmen progressed after beating North Walsham 3-1.

IT'S RAINING GOALS

Surprise surprise, the weather once again made its presence felt on a Sunday morning. That said twenty five games went ahead, to the credit of the teams involved. The Grove manager Steve Greening described his side's 5-5 draw with County Cup finalists AFC Wanderers as one of the best games he has been involved with in years. After going a goal up, The Grove then found themselves 3-1 down by half time. They stormed back after the break to lead 5-3 before AFC showed their spirit by drawing level. Amiss, Blake, Lloyd and Lewis Greening and Clarke all scored for the home side whilst Nixon 3, Kay and Thompson replied for the visitors.

It was a good day for 1A leaders Norman Wanderers Res. As they were winning 9-3 at Hellesdon Athletic second placed Norwich Busmen went down 2-1 at home to Hainford YCOB for whom Van Raalte and Dobson scored. In 1B, leaders Aylsham Sunday drew 2-2 at Prince of Denmark, whilst Norfolk CCSC are second after beating Unicorns 4-1. Costessey Sports thumped ten without reply against Hillside OB and Drayton shared six goals with Haig FC in a 3-3 draw.

Green Man continue to top 2A after a 2-0 home win over Spixworth Utd and Vale Logo are second after they thumped Coachmakers Arms 12-0. Reepham scored five without reply at Plasterers Arms and The Griffen beat The Castlegate by the same score. Old Catton got back to winning ways, 2-0 at Ribs of Beef and return to the top of 2B. Acle Rangers Res won 3-1 at PL Rangers, whilst it all went wrong for bottom side Thorpe Rovers who were hammered 24-2 at Horsford SC, Ramsey Gashut scoring fourteen times.

Clarry, Stamp, Piggin, Seager and Lahfa were all on target for 3A leaders Stoke FC as they won 5-1 at Mad Moose. DCS Rapid were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Heartsease Casuals, whilst The Otter won 3-2 at The Reindeer. Dereham Wanderers also had an away win, 4-3 at Newsman Celtic. Bayer FC are the new leaders of 3B after a 2-1 win at Wymondham Rangers Res. Previous leaders Mischief rather surprisingly went down 6-4 at home to Unicorns Res and the game between Moles Rest and Wilco Fast Fit ended all square at two apiece.

Its one hundred per cent from fifteen games now after 4A leaders Wellington Pink Uns beat Hellesdon Ath Res 6-2, and Kings Arms won 5-0 at Norwich Airport. Hockering FC thumped AFC Mousehold 10-1 whilst the only game played in 4B, saw AFC Oak score six without reply at Felmingham

Well done to Sprowston Royal Oak who reached the final of the Sunday Junior Cup after a 6-1 win at Downham OB. They will play Attleborough Town Sunday in the final on April 25th at Dereham Town FC.
