OLD RIVALS SET FOR CARROW RD SHOWDOWN

This Sunday sees the first of this seasons Carrow Rd County Cup Finals, when two of our top teams clash at the home of Norwich City. Dog House will be looking to go one better than last season as they take on old foes Marlborough, with both sides still in with a chance of a league and cup double. Good luck to both teams. The game on Sunday kicks off at 11.00am. Admission is £5 for adults, Consessions £3

WYMONDHAM BOUNCE BACK

Wymondham Rangers gained revenge on Senior Cup finalists Marlborough as they came from 3-1 down to win 5-3 after extra time as the League Cup quarter finals took place today. The South Norfolk side now face another tough trip to the other Senior Cup finalists Dog House, who beat Prince of Denmark 5-0. Acle Rangers won 5-1 at Costessey Sports and will now be at home to Reepham Town who thumped Eaton FC 8-1. The semi finals are scheduled to be played on April 10th.

In the Premier division, leaders The Grove are making sure that they have the points on the board, whilst their challengers with games in hand play catch up. Two goals by Paul Atkins plus others from Aaron Nixon and Gary Bee gave them a 4-0 win at AFC Wanderers. Matt Elwin scored five times as Poringland Wanderers hammered eleven past a luckless Norman Wanderers. Scott Casey, Jack Tarrant, Ryan Petit, Jonny Causton, Shaun Cann and Dale Simpson also found the net.

Hellesdon closed the gap on already promoted Reepham Town, at the top of 1A after returning from North Walsham with a 7-3 victory, whilst Hainford YCOB stay third after a 2-0 win at Aslacton. Windmill Wanderers were disappointed after a 5-0 home defeat against Horsford SC whilst the game between Rackheath Green Man and Fiveways was goalless. After losing at Unicorns last week, 1B leaders Aylsham Sunday were held to a 2-2 draw in the return game. They do however stay five points clear at the top from Earlham Utd who moved up to second spot after a 3-0 home win over Haig FC. In the divisions other game, Norfolk CCSC had a 6-0 (Ben Morgan 2, Thomas Norman 2, Craig Press and Kevin Hoy) win over Sprowston Wanderers. Hoy’s goal, a penalty, made him the oldest player ever to score for the club.

2A leaders The Castlegate were held to a 1-1 draw by fourth placed Upton and are now just a point clear of Dussingdale Rovers who came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at River Garden, Matthew Watson and Declan Crisp scoring for the home side. Nick Weavers scored twice and Lloyd Douglas hit a screamer as DCS Rapid beat Stoke 4-3. Adam Kobyleck also scored for DCS whilst Justin Cameron 2 and an OG were the Stoke scorers. Well done to Rose Tavern. A single Oliver Bennison goal in their victory over Spixworth was enough to ensure that they will at least finish runners up in 2B. The only team that can catch them, Bayer FC, had a 3-0 win at Sporting Farmhouse, but there was a surprise 3-0 defeat for PL Rangers at Wymondham Rangers Res. Acle Rangers scored the only goal of the game at Ribs Rovers, whilst goals by Danny Webster, David Gilfillan, Simon Curtis and Jonny Aldis helped to get Poringland Res off the bottom as they won 4-1 at Taverham Utd.

Congratulations to Sprowston Royal Oak who clinched the 3A title after beating nearest challengers Hockering 2-0. John Revell and Liam Doyle were on target as the side gained it second successive promotion. Wellington Pink Uns hopes of a runner up spot took a knock as they drew 2-2 at Hellesdon Res and they now need Hockering and Sporting Longdale to drop points in their final games. Nick Aston and Adam Knights scored for The Reindeer as they beat Mad Moose 2-1 and Stefan Harris-Wright along with Daniel King scored for Dancing Farmers as they beat Temple Bar 2-0. Newsman Celtic had a 5-3 home win over Heartsease Casuals. Daniel Bruce 2 and Jamie Daynes scored for Heartsease as the Division 3B winners beat the runners up Moles Rest 3-2. Hingham Sunday won 2-0 at Freethorpe.

Well done to the top two in 4A, with both sides gaining promotion at the first attempt, it just remains to see if Riverside Rovers can get the point they need to make sure of the title. As they were thumping Silver Fox Res 9-1 to stay top on goal difference New Buckenham who won by the odd goal of seven at Constable Crusaders have now completed their fixtures. DEF FC had a 3-2 home win over Earlham Colney. 4B leaders Briston Wanderers won 3-0 at Eaton beehive and are now six points clear of One Love Utd who were inactive. Salhouse Rovers had a 2-0 (Neil Woolner, Kel Haywood) win at Wendene Wanderers, whilst Bell Inn won 4-1 at home to Drayton. Hethersett Res beat Chapelfield Rovers 3-1 and Windmill Elite won 3-2 at Spixworth Res to leapfrog over their opponents and off the bottom of the table.

Marlborough closed the gap at the top of the Premier division after goals by Colin Wines 2, and Jason Armes gave them a 3-1 victory at leaders The Grove. Lloyd Greening provided a late consolation for the home side. Second placed Acle Rangers are now a point behind The Grove after a single goal win at AFC Wanderers, but after beating Norwich Busmen easily last week Wymondham Rangers dropped points in the return game as Busmen held them to a 2-2 draw. Matt Elwin 2 and Shaun Cann scored for Poringland Wanderers as they beat Silver Fox 3-2, whilst bottom side Norman Wanderers closed the gap on Costessey Sports after thumping them 6-1.

With 1A leaders Reepham Town on cup duty, Hellesdon took the chance to get closer at the top as they beat Eaton FC 3-1. Third placed Hainford YCOB suffered a surprise 4-0 home defeat to Windmill Wanderers, but there was good news for Horsford SC as they won 4-2 at Norman Wanderers. Aslacton beat Fiveways 2-0 and its well done to Rackheath Green Man who gained their first win of the season as they won 3-2 at Vale Longo. Aylsham Sunday opened up a five point gap at the top of 1B after winning 5-3 at Catton. Prince of Denmark took a heavy 8-1 beating at home to Sprowston Rovers whilst Earlham Utd scored seven when beating Hillside OB.

The Otter missed the chance to draw level on points with 2A leaders The Castlegate as they were held to a 1-1 draw at fourth placed Upton. Dussingdale Rovers remain third after hammering The Stores 10-3. Deopham’s poor run of form continued after goals by Ryan Hatch and Matt Seager 2, gave visitors Stoke FC a 3-1 victory. Nick Weavers and Lloyd Douglas were on target for DCS Rapid as they twice came from behind to draw with The Griffen and Acle Wanderers continue to improve after winning 4-1 (Ricky Grimmer, Tom White, Shane Abel and Shane Briste) at River Garden. A controversial goal two minutes from time by Dean Parfitt gave 2B leaders Rose Tavern victory over The Gordon. Oliver Bennison scored their other goal in a 2-1 win. Sporting Longdale surprisingly lost ground as Temple Bar came from behind to win 2-1 thanks to two Vincent Cork goals and Hellesdon scored five without reply as they won at Newsman Celtic. Chris Moore, Andrew Blofield and Daniel King all scored as Dancing Farmers lifted themselves off the bottom with a 3-0 win at Mad Moose. Congratulations to Heartsease FC who made it back to back titles after a 3-0 win. Daniel Bruce 2 and Jamie Daynes grabbed the goals for the champions who were highly praised by their opponents Maid Marian. For Maid Marian themselves, it was the end of a ten match unbeaten run in their final game of the season. Moles Rest defeated Aylsham Sunday 5-1, a result that sees them finish as runners up, and Hingham Sunday won by the odd goal of nine at Unicorns Res.

There is no let up from the top two in 4A. Leaders New Buckenham had a 7-1 home win over Hockering Res whilst  Riverside Rovers won 3-1 at Temples Property. Constable Crusaders kept their noses in front of DEF FC after beating them 3-0 to stay in third spot. Twenty three goals in their last two games have seen One Love Utd close the goal difference on leaders Briston down to one goal and three points as they walloped Wendene Wanderers 9-0. They also still have a game in hand. This really was a high scoring division this week. Salhouse Rovers scored five (Neil Woolner, Kel Haywood, Martin Woolner, Leroy Peters, and Jamie Weavers) as they beat Hethersett and also praised referee R Skeet on his performance. Bell Inn hit six when winning at Dereham Utd, and there were two remarkable games in this division. Jon Roy, Tom Frost, Oliver Thompson, Oliver Sadd and Tristan Stoneman 2, all scored for Drayton as they drew 6-6 with Chapelfield Rovers. Stoneman’s second goal came from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game, whilst will Tolliday scored a hat trick for Eaton Beehive as they scored six of the eleven goals in their game with Spixworth Res

Aaron Nixon 2, Paul Atkins, Craig Clarke Lloyd Greening and Farin Deeba all scored as leaders The Grove won 6-1 at Silver Fox. Acle Rangers stay four points behind with a game in hand after a 3-1 win at Poringland Wanderers, whilst some clinical finishing saw Marlborough four up by the break at AFC Wanderers before going on to win 5-1.  Danny McKail 2, Brendan Burke,  Jason Armes  and Calvin Pond scored for Marlborough whilst Luke Tuttle scored the Wanderers goal. Upton completed a quick fire double over Deopham as they won 5-1 and it was the same scenario for DCS Rapid as they won 3-1(Nick Weavers, Neal Gardner and Pat Cass) at Norman Wanderers A. Acle Wanderers showed what they are capable of when all players are available as goals by Thomas Cheongvee 2, Chris Sinderby, Tom White and Shane Abel lifted them off the bottom as they beat The Stores 5-0. Oliver Benisons’ early goal was enough to inch Rose Tavern closer to a top two finish in 2B, as they won 1-0 at Ribs Rovers. There was a really good game at Bayer FC where the home side came from a goal down to beat PL Rangers 3-1 and Spixworth are now in third spot as they won 4-1 at Sporting Farmhouse for whom Mathew Plumstead grabbed the consolation goal. Acle Rangers Res had a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Taverham Utd and Wymondham Res drew 3-3 at home to near neighbours Hethersett Ath.

Earlham Colney and Sporting Longdale Res took a point each in a 3-3 draw. 4B leaders Briston Wanderers had a 6-0 win at bottom side Windmill Elite as second placed One Love Utd did their goal difference a power of good as they thrashed ten man Dereham Utd 14-1. Salhouse Rovers had a great 5-1 (Neil Woolner 2, William Callow 2, Jamie Weavers) win at Bell Inn, in a game played in the correct sporting manner, whilst there was a good 2-1 win for Spixworth Res over Eaton Beehive. CUP SHOCK AS DENMARK DUMP FOXES

The good news from this morning’s fixtures was the fact that only a handful of games were lost to due to yesterday’s wet weather.

Result of the League Cup 2nd round was at Silver Fox where the home side went down 3-0 to Prince of Denmark. Premier division bottom side Costessey Sports progressed after a 2-1 home win over Poringland Wanderers and Acle Rangers thumped Norwich Busmen 5-1. Marlborough had a well deserved 3-1 (Danny McKail 2, Jason Armes) victory over The Grove whilst a single goal was enough for Wymondham Rangers to beat AFC Wanderers. The all 1A clash between Eaton and Horsford SC saw Eaton win by the odd goal of seven. Paul Dodimead 2, Nick Belgrave and Chris Sandle for Eaton

In 1A, there was a shock for second placed Hellesdon Athletic as they went down 4-2 at home to a resurgent Fiveways side who have now won their last three games. In 1B, Earlham Utd got back to winning ways as they hit five without reply against Sprowston Wanderers, whilst two goals from Ben Welham and another from Scott Kennedy helped Catton to a 3-0 win over Norfolk CCSC. Hillside OB and Unicorns took a point each in a two all draw.

2A leaders The Castlegate suffered defeat for the second successive week as they went down 2-1 at home to Stoke FC for whom Matt Seager and Justin Cameron were on target. Second placed The Otter are now just three points behind The Castlegate with two games in hand after overcoming The Griffen 3-2. Dussingdale Rovers still have the top two in their sights after a 3-1 win at Acle Wanderers, Gavin Andrew scoring for Wanderers, but Deopham chances of a top two finish ended as they went down 5-0 at home to Upton. DCS Rapid went four up (Nick Weavers 3, Neal Gardner) against Norman Wanderers A, eventually winning 4-2, whilst The Stores improvement continued with a 5-2 win at River Garden. An Oliver Bennison penalty in the last five minutes, saw 2B leaders Rose Tavern sneak a fortunate 1-0 victory over Taverham Utd. PL Rangers will be disappointed to have dropped two points as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Wymondham Res, and Matthew Plumstead scored a hat trick as Sporting Farmhouse beat Acle Res 3-2.

There was a good day for 3A leaders Sprowston Royal Oak. As they were beating ten man Heartsease Casuals 9-0 (Liam Doyle 3, Dan Green 2, James Lawrence, Dave Wallace and Leon Larkins) the mornings second placed team Sporting Longdale were going down 4-2 at home to Hellesdon Res. Hockering now move above Longdale after beating Caseys Cosmos 4-3, whilst Newsman Celtic beat The Reindeer by the same score. Nathan Savage 2 and Nick Aston on target for The Reindeer. A hat trick in the first fifteen minutes by Darren Hills was enough for Mad Moose to beat Temple Bar 3-0. In 3B, Unicorns Res beat AFC Oak 4-2 whilst Earlham Utd Res went down 3-0 at home to Hingham Sunday.

I travelled to New Buckenham to watch the home side take on Riverside Rovers in an entertaining top of the table clash. New Buckenham struck first after two minutes with a good finish from Jamie Porter, but the visitors pressed and struck post and bar as they searched for the equaliser. Just before half time Zak Bevis levelled the scores before a well taken individual goal by Neil Steward saw they visitors get to the break in front. Within a minute of the restart Porter scored his second with a glorious strike from the edge of the box and that proved to be the end of the scoring although both sides went close, Matt Atkins hitting the home crossbar in the last minute. These were two good sides, in a game very well refereed by Paul Cutter. Hockering Res went down 3-0 at Caseys Cosmos Res and Constable Crusaders and Earlham Colney drew 1-1. The game between Temples Property and Eaton Young Boys was goal less. In 4B there was an important 3-0 win for leaders Briston Wanderers over second place One Love Utd who are now six points behind with two games in hand. Bell Inn moved up to third after scoring six without reply at Drayton and there was a good 5-1 win for Hethersett Res at Chapelfield Rovers. There were nine goals in the game between Wendene Wanderers and Dereham United, six of them going to United.
