MARLBOROUGH CHAMPIONS, ACLE TAKE LEAGUE CUP

Congratulations to Marlborough FC. They took their fifth title in six years after a 3-0 victory at Wymondham Rangers. Goals by Jason Armes, Brendan Burke and Ricky George ensured that the title would go to Mark Jones's side and with just one league defeat this season they are indeed worthy champions.

It was also good news to for Rose Tavern in 2B. A Jordan Rocastle hat trick inspired PL Rangers to a 4-1 victory over Bayer FC, a result that means Bayer will finish as runners up. There was good news to for Hethersett Athletic. Their 2-0 victory over Ribs Rovers saw them avoid the drop at the expense of The Gordon

GASHUT STRIKES TO GIVE ACLE THE TROPHY

A single goal in the 20th minute from Acle striker Ramsay Gashut decided the outcome of this seasons League Cup Final. In a first half that saw Acle dominate, Acle had a few good chances whilst Dog House struggled to get their game into gear. The County Senior Cup winners were vastly improved after the break, but they could find no way passed a resolute Acle rearguard who hung on to give their side the trophy for the first time.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING SEASON'S CONCLUSION

Following a League Management Sub Committee meeting held on 07/04/11 whereby the conclusion of the 2010/11 season was discussed, it was agreed that midweek fixtures will need to be played and will be arranged by the Leagues Fixture Secretary. Failure to play an appointed game will result in a charge of Non Fulfilment of Fixture under Rule 10F (i). This step has been taken to ensure that all divisions are completed this season and clubs are thanked for their co-operation

SHREDDED NERVES AS TITLE GOES TO THE FINAL GAME

The Premier Division title will go down to the last game of the season as the two contenders, Marlborough and Dog House produced a goalless draw in a tense affair in front of a large crowd at Sloughbottom. Both sides can thank their goalkeepers for outstanding second half saves to keep the scores level and the result now means that Marlborough need just a point from their final game at Wymondham Rangers to lift the trophy. There was a sharp end to The Grove’s hopes of the runners up spot as they went down 4-1 at home to second bottom Norman Wanderers, whilst a stunning thirty yard free kick by Luke Tuttle gave AFC Wanderers a share of the spoils at League Cup finalists Acle Rangers. Despite goals from Scott and Luke Casey, Poringland went down to a late winner, losing 3-2 at Wymondham Rangers.

Congratulations to Hellesdon Athletic. In front of a very good crowd at Sloughbottom they ensured that they will play in the Premier Division next season by beating Unicorns 4-0 in the First Division play off final. Star of the show was Jamie Hall who grabbed a hat trick whilst Daniel Thorpe also found the target in a game that was played in a good spirit throughout. In the final games of the season in 1A, Reepham Town were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Horsford SC, Norman Wanderers Res beat Fiveways 2-0, whilst at Hainford YCOB the last ever game played at Hainford Village Hall saw long serving club secretary Steve Brown come on for the last ten minutes as his side lost by the odd goal of nine against North Walsham. Steve played in the clubs first ever game there back in 1984. In 1B, Sprowston Wanderers’ season finished with a 2-0 home defeat to Norfolk CCSC

Finally in 2B, Bayer thumped Taverham Utd 6-1, a result that sees them needing to win their final two games to take the title, whilst it also means that Taverham are relegated.

SUPER SUNDAY AHEAD

Could have picked a quiet way to spend a Bank Holiday, but no, all roads this Sunday lead to Sloughbottom. In the Premier Division, Marlborough take on old rivals Dog House, where a win for Marlborough will see them take the Premier title for the fifth time in six years. It will of course, be no easy task against a Dog House side who have gone from strength to strength as the season has progressed and recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory recently over their opponents in the County Senior Cup Final at Carrow Rd

If that was not enough, on the next pitch, Hellesdon Athletic and Unicorns will be battling it out for the right to play in their football in the Premier Division next season. The First Division playoff final sees a Hellesdon side, under the guidance of Tony Barnard, take on a Unicorns team that have benefitted from a consistent late run which saw them pip St Faiths for the second spot in 1B. It all adds up to an exciting mornings football, and the games kick off at 10.30am
