WELLINGTON WITHDRAWAL

After two successful seasons in the league, it is unfortunate to report that Wellington Pink Uns have had to withdraw from Division 2A, due to a lack of player commitment.

REDUCED PROGRAMME SEES CHAMPIONS BOUNCE BACK

With todays league programme greatly reduced due to the County Cups, Marlborough took the opportunity to wipe last weeks heavy defeat from their minds, as they won 5-2 at Hellesdon Athletic. I saw part of the Premier Divisons only other game at Sloughbottom where Norwich Busmen came from behind to beat Wymondham Rangers 2-1.

In 1A its now three out of three for Vale Longo, their best ever start to the season. Pete Crowley and Kevin Brown were on target as they won 2-0 at Hainford YCOB. The only game in 1B saw Prince of Denmark beat St Faiths 4-2.

A solitary goal by Mark Quinsey gave Deopham all three points at The Griffen in 2A, whilst in 2B, Heartsease hit seven (Aaron Kay 2, Tom Whitmore, Jamie Daynes, James White, Jody Blaseby and og) passed Hillside OB. Moles Rest scored five without reply at Hingham, and there was a single goal victory for Ribs Rovers at Hethersett Ath.

In 3A Dancing Farmers had a 2-1 win at Mad Moose, New Buckenham beat River Garden 5-1 and The Reindeer had a 3-0 home win over Norman Wanderers A. The divisions other game saw Caseys Cosmos beat Constable Crusaders 3-1. One Love Utd beat last seasons main rivals Briston Wanderers 2-0, and Sloughbottom Revolution won by the odd goal of five at Taverham. Freethorpe and AFC Oak took a point each in a 1-1 draw.

In the County Cups, Bayer FC, AFC Wanderers, Dog House, Spixworth, Acle Rangers, Earlham Utd, RoseTavern, Castlegate, Aylsham Sunday and Norfolk CCSC all progressed in the Senior Cup.

Maid Marian, Sprowston Sunday, The Gordon, Poringland Wanderers Res, and Sporting Farmhouse went through in the Intermediate Cup, whilst Schoolhouse FC, William Rovers, Brooke, Phoenix Felthorpe, Hockering Res, William wanderers, Sporting Longdale Res, White Rose Utd, Temples Property, and Chapelfield Rovers all progressed. Well done to all.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

With this weekend being the date for the first round of the County Cups, all clubs must remember to phone their result through to the County FA AND the League before 2pm. Good luck to all our sides in the various competitions. Clubs playing league games should also be aware that because of the cups, there is a shortage of referees for the weekend. If you have not been appointed an official, you will have been told by Friday. Take a whistle though, as things may change.

THE GROVE STUN CHAMPIONS

On a day where some games kicked off earlier than usual because of the Norwich City match, The Grove provided the result of the day when they hammered reigning champions Marlborough 5-1. Gary Bee 2, Lloyd Greening, Sam Mallett and Danny Pennell scored for the home side whilst Jason Armes added a late consolation. Dog House got their first points of the season, beating Hellesdon 3-2, whilst Aylsham got a good win, 2-1 at Acle Rangers. A last minute goal gave Reepham a 2-1 victory over Poringland Wanderers and Wymondham Rangers kept up their good start by beating Unicorns 3-1. The game between Norwich Busmen and AFC Wanderers ended goalless.

Vale Longo are the early pacesetters in 1A, after a 4-1, (Pete Crowley, Jason Drake, Jutty Womack and Alfie Shayes) victory over North Walsham made it two wins from two games. Dussingdale Rovers are the same after winning 3-2 at Windmill Wanderers. There were 5-1 victories for Norman Wanderers and Fiveways over Hainford YCOB and The Otter respectively whilst goals by Scott Winton, Joe McFarlane, Jon Soderberg and Paul Dodimead helped Eaton FC to a 4-2 win over Aslacton. In 1B, Sprowston Rovers gained three points after beating Prince of Denmark 6-1 whilst Catton went down 2-1 at home to near neighbours Spixworth. Dave Waters and Jordan King put St Faiths two up at Norfolk CCSC, but the home side rallied and took a point thanks to a double strike by Ben Morgan. There were eight goals and a point each as Bayer drew at home to Earlham Utd for whom Damon Brown and Tom Blanch grabbed a brace each.

DCS Rapid began their 2A season with a 3-2 win at Green Man, and it was the same story for The Griffen as they beat Hockering 3-2 thanks to goals by Scott Browne Will Layton and og. The Stores travelled to Deopham and came from three down to take a point after goals by Marc Howard, Michael Crosby and Shaun Plant. Stephen Parry, Mark Quinsey and Neal Quinsey had opened the scoring for the home side. In 2B, David Gilfillan was on target four times as Poringland Res kicked off their season with an 11-2 hammering of Hillside OB. Moles rest scored six without reply at home to Hingham, whilst Acle Rangers Res won by the odd goal of five at Sporting Farmhouse. There was a good performance by Maid Marian as they became the first side in over a season to take a point off of Heartsease FC as they drew 0-0.

In 3A, Riverside Rovers were 2-1 winners at Hellesdon Res, and Norman Wanderers A, had a 3-2 home win over Newsman Celtic. The divisions other game saw The Reindeer and Sporting Longdale draw 2-2, Aaron Tunaley and Matthew Wilson for the home side and Jamie Platten and Ryan Roberts for Longdale. Lamarana Jallow 2, Ronaldo Balde 2, Assinario Vaz, Buck Ejimofor and Ibrahim Saleh all scored for One Love Utd who thumped Taverham Utd 7-0 in 3B, Bell Inn won 6-2 (Ian Babb 3, Tom Brown 2 and Robbie Errington) at The Gordon, whose goals came from Craig Sewell & Ian Watkins whilst Briston Wanderers beat Aylsham Res 5-2.Unicorns Res beat Sloughbottom Revolution 3-1 and Salhouse Rovers scored four minutes from time through Kel Heywood to take the points at Freethorpe after Oliver Harper had opened the scoring.. DEF FC got a win under their belts as they defeated AFC Oak 2-0.

In 4A, new clubs continue their fine start to life in the league. Brooke FC had a 4-2 (Sam Page 2, Tom Graves and Daniel Manganaro) win at Temple Property, and Whiterose Utd won 2-1 (Lee Buxton 2) at Hockering Res. Manor Park beat Temple Bar 3-1 and Earlham Colney had a good 2-0 win at Sporting Longdale Res. Eaton Young Boys also had a 2-0 victory at William Rovers. Schoolhouse FC continue to find the net, this time scoring six (Jack Smith 2, Ben Watson 2, Richard Brett and Joshua Cullington)as they beat Costessey Sports Res. William Wanderers scored six without reply at Spixworth Res as did Chapelfield Rovers at Dereham Wanderers, helped in part by a hat trick from Bilal Fares. It was also Chapelfield’s first clean sheet for over a year. Dilham Cross keys recorded their first league win as they won 4-2 at Wendene and goals by Tom Frost, Sam Lincoln and James Tubb were enough to help Drayton beat Hethersett Athletic Res 3-1.Windmill Elite also continued their good start by winning 4-1 at Salhouse Res

SUNDAY KICK OFF'S

Clubs wishing to kick off earlier this weekend because of Norwich City's televised fixture at 1.30pm, may do so providing ALL parties (opponents, referee and the league) are informed and in agreement.

PREMIER NEW BOYS SUFFER BEE STING

The 2011/12 season kicked off with a mouth watering clash in the Premier Division. A good sized crowd turned up at Eaton Park to see reigning champions Marlborough defeat old holders Dog House 3-1. McGee put the home side in front with a header before Jason Armes provided a good finish after good work by Sean Brown to make it two. Dog House pulled a goal back but a great strike from Brown made it 3-1 before half time and that’s how it stayed. Another good game at the same venue saw a Luke Tuttle inspired AFC Wanderers welcome Reepham Town to the Premier division with a 5-1 defeat. Tuttle helped himself to four goals whilst Tim Henry added the fifth. Unicorns also suffered the same fate as Reepham as they went down at home to The Grove, whose five goals were all scored by Gary Bee. Wymondham Rangers got off to a good start, winning 5-2 at Aylsham Sunday, whilst Acle Rangers won 2-0 at Poringland Wanderers. Well done to Hellesdon Athletic. They were the only ones of the new boys to record a victory, beating Norwich Busmen 3-1.

In 1A The Castlegate got off to a winning start in Senior football, beating Eaton FC 4-3 as did Dussingdale Rovers who beat Norman Wanderers 3-1. Vale Longo had a good 3-0 (Steve Churchill 2, Pete Crowley) win at The Otter whilst Windmill Wanderers won 4-1 at Aslacton. Horsford SC came back from North Walsham with a 2-1 victory under their belts. In 1B, newly promoted Rose Tavern and Bayer faced each other in a game that saw the visitors come from 2-0 down to win 8-3, thanks to goals by Dave Matthews 4, Lee Robins , Danny Nelson , Joe Woodcock  and Ben Williamson. Norfolk CCSC had a 4-1 (Ben Morgan 2, Tom Norman and Alex Williamson) victory at Spixworth and Catton scored four times in the final five minutes to beat Prince of Denmark for whom Darren Guymer had scored first. Sprowston Wanderers made a good start defeating Haig FC 2-1 whilst Simon Hailey scored for the home side as Earlham Utd and Sprowston Rovers shared the points in a one all draw.

In 2A, Acle Wanderers made a flying start scoring nine (Jason Barber 4, Ryan Flint, Gavin Andrew, Tom Cheongvee and og) against Stoke FC, whilst The Stores put seven passed Green Man. Hockering also started with a win beating Deopham 4-1, goals coming from Mori Elliot 2, Ricky Loxley and Ben Wade. PL Rangers made their intentions for the season clear by thumping newly promoted Hingham Sunday 9-1, whilst Heartsease FC showed that they intend to keep their unbeaten run of league games for as long as possible after they beat Hethersett Ath 4-3, thanks to goals by Tom Whitmore 2, Alex Ashmore and Jamie Daynes. Moles Rest won 2-1 at Ribs Rovers whilst Maid Marian won 3-1 (Clive Riches 2, Danny McIlwraith).

Mad Moose proved the biggest winners in 3A as they scored six at Constable Crusaders, Riverside Rovers beat River Garden 6-1 and New Buckenham had a 4-1 home win over The Reindeer. Hellesdon Ath Res made it a good day for the club as they won 3-1 at Dancing Farmers, and a single late goal from Dan Whitworth was enough for Newsman Celtic to take all three points against Caseys Cosmos. Neil Woolner 3, Oliver Harper 2, Callum Crane and a pile driver from Chris Newton were the marksmen as Salhouse Rovers beat DEF FC 7-2. There was a good 5-1 victory for Aylsham Res over Unicorn Res whilst Freethorpe won 2-1 at Taverham Utd. The Gordon had a 3-1 (Chris Barnes 2, George Mace)win at AFC Oak whilst and own goal and a last minute bicycle kick from Shaun Lawrence gave Sloughbottom Revolution a 2-1 victory over One Love Utd in a bad tempered affair. Bell Inn and Briston Wanderers shared six goals to take a point apiece, Tom Brown, Reece Ashman and Ian Babb scoring for the home side.

On the whole the new clubs in Divisions 4A and B did pretty well. Bungay Town made it a winning debut by beating Hockering Res 4-1, whilst Brooke smashed eight without reply against William Rovers. Manor Park drew 2-2 with ten man Earlham Colney whilst Phoenix Felthorpe were 5-0 winners at Eaton Young Boys. Whiterose Utd earned the praise of their opponents Sporting Longdale Res as they won their first ever league game 2-0 (Thomas Hutt, Lee Buxton)whilst I saw part of an amazing game at Eaton Park were hosts Temple Bar came from three down to beat Temples Property 7-5. Schoolhouse FC showed their potential in 4B starting the season with a 10-2 (Richard Brett 4, Josh Cullington 2, Jack Smith 2, Brendan Burke and William Vincent) victory at fellow newcomers Dilham Cross Keys. Another battle of new boys saw Salhouse Rovers Res win 4-1 at Costessey Sports Res and Windmill Wanderers had a 6-2 debut victory over Dereham Wanderers. Sam Lincoln, Steve Tubb and Alex Jarvis all scored as Drayton won 3-2 at Chapelfield Rovers, whilst Windmill Elite made a promising start, beating Spixworth Res 4-0. The Hethersett Res versus Wendene game was abandoned due to an injury to a Wendene Player.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL

Finally the start of the season is upon us. Good luck to all clubs, old and new and please remember the referee RESPECT campaign. They are in short supply at present so it will be the clubs that will suffer in the long run if we don't. Home clubs, please remember to phone in todays result by 2pm and Secretaries please ensure the result card arrives by Tuesday lunchtime.

TWO MORE GO AS KICK OFF NEARS

With the League set to kick off in three days time, two more teams have unfortunatly had to withdraw. Costessey Sports Sunday have folded their first team in Division 1B. Their reserves who were newly elected to 4B will remain as they were last seasons youth team and it was felt would not be strong enough yet to compete in Senior football. Upton also look set to leave Division 2A as they are without a manager and have nobody prepared to take on the role. They join Wymondham Rangers Res who left 2B a couple of weeks ago. Clubs in these divisions will be notified by Bernie Hardiman of any fixture changes.
