SEVEN UP FOR WANDERERS

On a Sunday morning perfect for playing football, I travelled to Acle Rangers to watch them face current Premier Division leaders The Grove. In a tight first half of few clear cut chances, Acle were unlucky not to go in front when they hit the crossbar, but a sweeping move down the left by the visitors saw Lloyd Greening put them in front right on the half time whistle. The second period continued in similar vein and a carbon copy of the move that produced the first goal saw Sam Mallett head the second before new signing Aaron James added a third. AFC Wanderers moved up to second spot after thumping Unicorns 7-1, with goals coming from Farin Deeba 2, Luke Tuttle, Daniel Barrowclough, Craig Vincent, Liam Blofeld and Duane Thompson. Dog House scored four times whilst winning at Reepham, and the winners of the September Sporting Award Hellesdon Athletic, won 4-2 at Wymondham Rangers.

It’s still neck and neck at the top of 1A, with Vale Longo beating Hainford YCOB 5-0 and Dussindale Rovers winning 3-1 at North Walsham Town. Fiveways were held to a 2-2 draw at Horsford SC, whilst Norman Wanderers were beaten 3-1 at Eaton FC whose goals came from Ian Dodimead, Jon Soderberg and Ronny Qoopre de Barra. The Castlegate had a 2-0 home win over Aslacton and the game between Windmill Wanderers and The Otter ended in a 3-3 draw. Sprowston Rovers top 1B after a good 3-1 home win over Norfolk CCSC, whilst Prince of Denmark’s good run continued as they won 4-1 at Earlham Utd. Catton beat Sprowston Wanderers 3-0 and there was a 1-1 draw between Rose Tavern and Spixworth, with Will Abbs scoring for the home side.

In the top game in 3A leaders Hockering saw a three goal lead disappear at Sprowston Sunday for whom Josh Halliday 2, and Jim Lawrence were on target and despite goals by Jason Barber and Ricky Grimmer, Acle Wanderers conceded two late goals to go down 4-2 at home to The Stores. There was a nine goal thriller at The Griffen where the home side won by the odd goal against nine man Green Man, and Deopham beat a depleted Norman Wanderers Res 7-2 (Mark Quinsey 2, Jonathan Oakley 2, Lewis McKerell 2 and Phil Mercer). In 2B, leaders Heartsease F.C won 4-1 away at Sporting Farmhouse with goals coming from Tom Whitmore, Chris Parnell, og, and a Aaron Kay wonder goal from inside his own half and they remain a point clear of Moles Rest who beat Maid Marian 2-0. PL Rangers 4-0 victory over Poringland Res included a goal for 16 years old Rhys Logan and Ribs Rovers had a comfortable 5-1 win against Acle Rangers Res. The basement battle between Hethersett Ath and Hillside OB ended in a first win of the season for the visitors by 2-0.

New Buckenham have opened up a two point gap at the top of 3A. As they were winning 5-2 at Constable Crusaders, second placed Riverside Rovers were being held to a 1-1 draw at Dancing Farmers. River Garden found themselves four down at half time at home to Newsman Celtic, but despite scoring four themselves after the break through Barry McCarthy, Martin Kemp, Gareth Davies and Chris Neave, they still went down 5-4. Credit to River Garden though as they praised their opponents and the referee highly in an entertaining game. Hellesdon Ath Res had a 5-2 victory over The Reindeer, whilst Mad Moose beat Norman Wanderers A 4-2. Biggest win in the division though saw Sporting Longdale score nine without reply at Caseys Cosmos. One Love Utd are the new leaders of 3B after a good 4-1 win at Briston Wanderers as previous leaders Salhouse Rovers were held to a goalless draw at Unicorns Res. Sloughbottom Revolution are third after a 3-1 win at AFC Oak and new signing Dale Simpson grabbed a hat trick on his debut for Bell Inn as they beat Aylsham Res 6-2. Freethorpe had a good 3-1 victory at The Gordon.

Bungay Town continue to lead the way in 4A as they won 2-1 at Sporting Longdale Res, but are only top on goal difference from Whiterose Utd who were 5-0 winners at eight man William Wanderers. Another of the new clubs, Phoenix Felthorpe are also on fifteen points after they won 3-2 at Temples Property, and a single goal was enough for Eaton Young Boys to complete a quick double over Earlham Colney. There were also home wins for Temple Bar, 3-1 over Brooke and Manor Park, 2-1 against Hockering Res. Richard Tubb, Sam Lincoln, Johnny Roy and James Barty and an OG were the scorers as 4B leaders Drayton came from behind to win 5-1 at Spixworth Res, whilst second placed William Wanderers had a 6-1 win at Windmill Elite. Schoolhouse FC won by the odd goal of five (Callum Burke, Jack Smith and Joe Mccarthy) against Hethersett Res and Leon Campbell scored five times as Chapelfield Rovers won 6-3 at Costessey Sports Res. Well done to Wendene Wanderers who gained their first points of the season with a 2-0 win at Salhouse Rovers Res.

GROVE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CUPS TO INCREASE LEAD

With many clubs competing in the County Cup competitions, The Grove made the most of the opportunity to increase their lead at the top of the Premier Division with a 3-0 win at Reepham Town. Craig Clarke, Lloyd Greening and a Sam Mallett penalty were the scorers.

Three games took place in 1A, and despite losing their 100% record, the Fiveways secretary described his side’s 2-2 draw with Windmill Wanderers as a cracking game of football. North Walsham are in fourth spot after a 6-3 win at The Otter, and a single goal was enough to give Norman Wanderers a win at Aslacton. The only game in 1B saw a good win for Sprowston Wanderers, 2-0 at Haig FC, a victory that sees the visitors move up to third place.

In 2A, leaders Hockering won 4-1 at bottom side Stoke, whilst in 3A, there was a point each for Newsman Celtic and Norman Wanderers A as they drew 1-1. The solitary game in 3B saw Bell Inn get back to winning ways as they won 3-2 at Aylsham Res.

In 4A, Bungay Town hammered Manor Park, scoring fifteen without reply, whilst Eaton Young Boys had a 2-1 home win over Earlham Colney. James Tubb and Tom Frost were on target as Drayton moved up to second place in 4B after beating Wendene Wanderers 2-0. Dilham Cross Keys are right on their heels though after a 4-1 (Jonathan Lamb 2, Steven Gigli and Daniel Duffield) victory over Hethersett Res and well done to Costessey Sports Res who gained their first points of the season by beating Spixworth Res 3-0.

In the County Cups, there were wins in the Senior for Hellesdon Athletic, Earlham Utd, Acle Rangers, Rose Tavern, AFC Wanderers, Dog House and Norfolk CCSC. The games between Marlborough and Norwich Busmen and Bayer against St Faiths ended all square after 120 minutes and will be replayed next Sunday.

The Intermediate Cup saw victories for, Briston Wanderers, DCS Rapid, Deopham, Mad Moose, The Griffen, Sprowston Sunday, Riverside Rovers, Sporting Longdale, Salhouse rovers, The Gordon, Taverham Utd, Freethorpe, Sporting Farmhouse, Hellesdon Ath Res, Green Man, Constable Crusaders and One Love Utd,

The Junior Cup provided wins for, Schoolhouse FC, William Wanderers, Temples Property, Whiterose Utd and Salhouse Rovers Res.

TEN MAN GROVE KEEP TOP SPOT

Despite having a player sent off in the first five minutes The Grove produced a great display to beat Wymondham Rangers 7-0. Debut keeper Lee Edwards also saved the penalty resulting from the sending off. Gary Bee 2, Sam Mallett, Danny Pennall and a hat trick for substitute Arran James were the marksmen. Marlborough had a 4-1 home win over Reepham Town whilst Acle Rangers had a good 2-0 win at Dog House. AFC Wanderers had goals by Luke Tuttle, Liam Blofeld, Duane Thompson and Ben Abrahams to thank for their 4-2 win at Aylsham Sunday and Unicorns took a two goal lead thanks to an Andrew Hawes double, but visitors Norwich Busmen hit back to score a late equaliser.

Two teams with 100% records faced each other in 1A and both remain undefeated as the top two, Vale Longo and Dussindale Rovers drew 1-1. Fiveways also have the perfect start so far and goals by Nicky Barker, Mike Callum and Tommy Want ensured a 3-1 home win over Eaton FC. North Walsham moved up to fourth spot after winning by the odd goal of nine at Aslacton whilst Norman Wanderers and Windmill Wanderers took a point each after a 1-1 draw. Jody Cork scored twice as Hainford YCOB beat near neighbours Horsford SC 2-1 and The Castlegate won 3-2 at The Otter. In 1B, Bayer FC scored seven without reply at St Faiths to take over top spot. Prince of Denmark also scored seven as they beat Rose Tavern and Haig FC had a good 4-2 victory at Spixworth. Sprowston Wanderers beat Earlham Utd 3-2 whilst Norfolk CCSC shared four goals and the points with Catton FC .

2A leaders Hockering had a narrow 1-0 victory over Acle Wanderers and lead the table by two points from DCS Rapid who beat Stoke FC 3-1.Norman Wanderers Res won 3-2 at The Stores whilst Green Man gained another point in a 2-2 draw with Deopham who came from two down (Jonathan Oakley and Stephen Parry). I certainly know how to pick them, as for the second week running I saw a very entertaining game. CNS School was the venue as Maid Marian took on PL Rangers in 2B, and it was the home side who took the lead in the 14th minute when Clive Riches scored with an emphatic volley from a corner. PL responded and hit the bar before levelling the scores with a good finish. The second half continued in a competitive and even way and it was left to substitute Scott Laxton to score the winner for the home side. Referee Mark Smythe controlled the game very well indeed and both sides were a pleasure to watch. Heartsease remain top of the division as they beat Hingham Athletic 5-1 and second placed Moles rest won 8-1 at Hillside OB. Acle Rangers Res beat Hethersett Ath 5-1 at home and David Gilfillan, Rueben Clarke and Neil Dunthorne were on target for Poringland Res as they drew 3-3 with Sporting Farmhouse.

Its five out of five for the top two in 3A as New Buckenham beat Caseys Cosmos 5-3 and Riverside Rovers had a 3-0 home win over Constable Crusaders. Good to see Newsman Celtic up with the leading pack after a 5-1 victory over Dancing Farmers. Chris Neave 2, Martyn Carver, Mark Fogarty and Lee Rayner scored five second half goals as a resurgent River Garden won 5-0 at The Reindeer. Sporting Longdale beat Mad Moose 3-1 and there was a 4-4 draw between Norman Wanderers A and Hellesdon Res. In 3B, Salhouse Rovers came from 3-1 down to beat Bell Inn 7-3 (Neil Woolner 4, Philip Fordham, Michael Sommerfield and an own goal). Freethorpe Beat Briston wanderers 3-1 and there was another victory for Aylsham Res, this time 2-1 over AFC Oak. The Gordon visited Taverham Utd and won 2-1.

Brooke FC have climbed to the top of 4A after a 3-0 (Ben Nolan, Tom Miller and Lewis Clarry) victory over Earlham Colney. Phoenix Felthorpe are on the same number of points after beating William Rovers 3-1, as are Whiterose Utd who thumped Temple Bar 8-3. Immediately after this game i took a phone call from referee Stephen Ames who much do my delight could not praise both sides highly enough and informed me that the game was played in a spirit that was a credit to the league, which is great news to hear. Eaton Young Boys beat Sporting Longdale Res 2-0 and there was an eight goal thriller between Hockering Res and Temples Property, both of whom took a point.

William Wanderers top 4A after thumping Costessey Sports Res 9-1, but Dilham was the place to be in 4B if you wanted to see a thriller as the home side shared ten with Windmill Elite. Jamie Duffield 2, Michael London 2, Nicky Wood scored for Dilham in a game that saw the visitors equalise in the last minute. Spixworth Res grabbed a 2-1 win at Wendene Wanderers whilst Hethersett Res and Salhouse Res drew 1-1.

PORINGLAND LEAVE PREMIER

Sorry to report that another club has had to fold a side. One of our longest established sides Poringland Wanderers asked for, and were given permission to withdraw their first team. It was felt that putting the reserve side into the Premier Division could see the club fold completely, a situation we did not want to arise. Their records for this season have been deleted.

SUNNY DAY BUT ITS RAINING GOALS IN DIVISION 2B

A superbly taken second half goal from Lloyd Greening was enough to see The Grove go back to the top of the Premier Division on a sunny Sunday morning. The Grove were also full of praise for their opponents and the referee, both of whom were awarded top marks by the club which is great to see. Marlborough drop to second spot after being held to a one all draw at Acle Rangers whilst there were plenty of goals at Wymondham where Dog House hit nine of the thirteen scored. Reepham continued their decent start in senior football, scoring six without reply against Unicorns, whilst Norwich Busmen drew 1-1 at home to Aylsham Sunday.

In 1A, Vale Longo continued their good start to the season. Pete Crowley scored his 4th in 4 games, Jason Drake, Rob Holl scoring on his 50th club appearance, and a 25 yard free kick from Kev Brown sealed the points as they beat Aslacton 4-2. A 1-0 win at Horsford SC kept Dussindale Rovers level on points at the top with Vale, whilst Fiveways kept up their promising beginning with a 2-1 win at Windmill Wanderers. Norman Wanderers beat The Otter 6-3 whilst North Walsham had a good 4-1 victory over The Castlegate. A single goal was enough for Hainford YCOB to take three points at Eaton FC. I and League President attended the 1B match between Bayer and Spixworth to present the home side with their Sporting Award from May last season. I’m pleased to say we were then treated to a superb game of football from two sides that would not look out of place in the Premier Division. Devin Blundell put the visitors ahead when he capitalised on some hesitation in the Bayer defence, but with Dave Mathews and the outstanding Wayne Nelson causing the Spixworth defence problems, it was no surprise to see an equaliser, which came from an excellent solo effort by Joe Woodcock. Both keepers made superb saves before Nelson put Bayer ahead on the stroke of half time. The game continued to be end to end throughout the second period and just as it looked as if the home side would take the points, Blundell popped up to score his second and grab a point. Well refereed by Phil Edwards, the game and the teams were a credit to the league. Sprowston Rovers top the division after beating St Faiths 3-0 and Rose Tavern beat Earlham Utd by the same score thanks to good goals from Will Abbs and Oliver Bennison, 2. Prince of Denmark came back from Haig with a point after a 2-2 draw.

In 2A, Ryan Flint 2, Tom White and an og put Acle Wanderers 4-2 at home to Sprowston Sunday, but the visitors stormed back to win 6-4. League leaders Hockering won 3-0 at Normans Res whilst The Griffen drew 2-2 with DCS Rapid. Despite the glorious sunshine it just rained goals in 2B. Leading the way were PL Rangers, who scored eighteen times against a luckless Hillside OB. Ribs Rovers were next, scoring ten as they beat Hingham followed by Moles Rest who beat Acle Rangers Res 9-2. League leaders Heartsease also scored nine (Darren Critchlow 3, Aaron Kay 2, Alex Ashmore 2, Sammy White and Kyle Appleton) as they won 9-4 at Poringland Res and there was a fairly low!!! Scoring game as Maid Marian won 4-1 at Sporting Farmhouse thanks to goals by Danny Walker, Clive Riches, Paul Suggitt and a tap in for Ikky Toyama. Once again it was good to see another referee, Paul Cutter earn praise.

New Buckenham continue to top 3A after a narrow 2-1 win at Mad Moose and are joined on twelve points by Riverside Rovers who won by the odd goal in five at Caseys Cosmos. Dancing Farmers took a point in a 3-3 draw at Constable Crusaders, whilst Hellesdon Res beat Sporting Longdale 3-1. Newsman Celtic got back to winning ways as they won 4-2 (Adam Hole 2, Robbie Powell and Tommy Brown) at The Reindeer. Martyn Carver scored four times and Anthony Hunt added another as River Garden beat Normans A 5-2. One Love Utd top 3B after a good 5-2 victory over Salhouse Rovers. Goals from Iffy Gray 2, Ebus Ono 2 and Kevin Gil saw them move three points clear of their opponents whose goals came from the prolific Neil Woolner. Third placed Sloughbottom Revolution were held to a 4-4 (Scott Sawyer 2, Sany Ahbay and Zach Howe) draw at The Gordon, whilst there was a good 3-2 victory for Taverham Utd at Briston Wanderers. DEF FC drew 1-1 with a resurgent Aylsham Res, whilst AFC Oak grabbed their first win of the season, beating Bell Inn 2-1. Unicorns Res also recorded a victory when they beat Freethorpe 3-2.

Four games involving Temples Property this season have produced thirty three goals already. This time they went down 6-3 at home to Bungay Town who top the table on goal difference from Brooke FC who won 2-0 at Sporting Longdale Res. Three other clubs also have nine points. Phoenix Felthorpe, who beat White Rose Utd 4-1 and Temple Bar who are below White Rose, beat Earlham Colney 3-1. Manor Park had to play with ten men against Eaton Young Boys due to the non appearance of the referee and the player who took the whistle officiated in a 3-3 draw. Hockering Res got their first points of the season as they won 3-1 at William Rovers. In 4A, William Wanderers stay top of 4B after a 3-3 draw with Schoolhouse FC and Chapelfield Rovers are third after a 6-3 win at Salhouse Res, Ryan Blyth, John Carver and Joe Russell scored for Salhouse. Windmill Elites 3-1 win at Costessey Sports Res sees them in fourth spot whilst Dilham Cross Keys earned a point in a 3-3 draw at Drayton, Steve Tubb, Richard Tubb and Tom Frost all scoring for the home side. Well done to Spixworth Res who got their first points on the board as they beat Hethersett Ath Res 3-1.

SPOILS SHARED AS DOG HOUSE BITE BACK

A pleasant Sunday morning saw an almost completes set of league fixtures played this weekend. In the Premier Division, I saw the game at Cringleford where visitors The Grove took the lead after half an hour through Danny Blake, but the lead did not last too long as Michael Timm pulled Dog House level before half time. Despite an even second period, neither side managed to produce a winner. Early leaders Marlborough had a narrow 3-2 (Dave Freeman, Shaun Cameron and Rikki George) win over Wymondham Rangers, whilst goals by Farin Deeba 2, Luke McClure and Matt Elwin on his debut were enough to give AFC Wanderers a 4-1 victory at Hellesdon. A battle of the new boys saw Reepham score six without reply at Aylsham, whilst there was a point apiece for Unicorns and Acle rangers as they drew one each.

In 1A, there were good away wins for Windmill Wanderers and North Walsham who both scored four times as they won at Hainford YCOB and The Castlegate respectively. Dussindale Rovers had a 2-1 home win over Eaton FC and Fiveways beat Norman Wanderers 4-2. Horsford SC brought a point back from Aslacton after a goalless draw. Bayer are the early pacesetters in 1B after an amazing 8-4 victory at Prince of Denmark whilst Callum Ward 2, Thomas Blanch, Marcus Gee and Ashley Davies all scored for Earlham Utd as they recorded a 5-1 home win over Haig FC. A Dave Waters penalty and a Ben Soanes strike saw St Faiths come from behind to beat Catton 2-1, whilst Sprowston Rovers won 3-0 at Spixworth. The Sprowston Wanderers Rose Tavern game was abandoned due to a serious injury.

A 7-0 ( Shaun Hanner 2, Ben Gee, Adam Brazil, Dan Gowing 2, James Matless) victory over Stoke sees Hockering top 2A on goal difference from DCS Rapid who beat Deopham 3-1 with goals by Brett Kingsbury 2, and Neal Gardner. Stephen Parry replied for Deopham. Sprowston Sunday got their league campaign up and running with a 7-2 (James Lawrence 3, Matt Eves 2, Liam Doyle 2) win over Norman Wanderers Res, whilst a goal two minutes from time denied Green Man all three points at Acle Wanderers. Peter Tilbrook and Ryan Flint scored for Acle, Amos Bailey and Tom Jenkins replied for the visitors. 2-2 was also the score as The Stores were held at home by The Griffen. Heartsease FC lead the way in 2B as goals by Tom Whitmore, Jamie Daynes, James White, Alex Ashmore Sam White and Kyle Appleton helped them beat Ribs Rovers whose two goals came from Brendan Mills. Maid Marian held a 2-1 lead over Poringland Res thanks to goals by Danny Cornish and Clive Riches, but a stunning individual effort by Ryan Pettit and a Jonny Causton free kick in the dying minutes saw the visitors snatch all three points. PL Rangers lost a two goal lead to lose 3-2 at Acle Rangers Res, whilst Hillside OB’s poor run continued as they went down 5-0 at home to Sporting Farmhouse.

Jordan Scent, Alex Pattison and Ryan Saunders all scored as Hingham gained their first points of the season, beating Hethersett Ath 3-2.

The top two from last season’s 4A, have carried the good work into 3A this season. New Buckenham had a 7-1 win over Hellesdon Res, whilst Roy Bevis scored four times as Riverside Rovers won an interesting game against Mad Moose 7-5. The Rovers secretary praised the spirit of both sides, which is good to hear. Newsman Celtic were disappointed with their performance as they went down 8-2 at home to Constable Crusaders and Dancing Farmers had a 4-1 win against Caseys Cosmos. Anthony Hunt and an OG helped River Garden get their first point on the board as they drew 2-2 at Sporting Longdale. Neil Woolner scored four times as Salhouse Rovers beat AFC Oak 7-2 in 3B. The other goals came from Oliver Harper 2, and Leroy Peters whilst Scott Sealey and Wes Barton scored for AFC. Ronaldo Balde 2, and an Iffy Gray penalty helped One Love Utd win at Freethorpe and DEF FC had an excellent 5-3 victory at Bell Inn. Aylsham Res look to be having a better season as they beat The Gordon 2-1 and there were two draws in the division Taverham Utd and Unicorns Res drew 1-1 and Sloughbottom Revolution drew 0-0 with Briston Wanderers.

In 4A there was a big win for Bungay Town who thumped William Rovers 9-2, but it’s another new club Whiterose Utd who top the division after beating Earlham Colney 8-2. Brooke failed to make the most of their chances as they went down 2-1 at home to Manor Park, whilst Phoenix Felthorpe won 4-2 at Hockering Res. Temples Property won well, 5-1 at Eaton Young Boys and a single goal was enough for Temple Bar to beat Sporting Longdale Res. William Wanderers continued their good start to life in 4B as they hammered Salhouse Res 8-1, whilst there was four goals from Ishmael Thompson as Chapelfield also scored eight against Spixworth Res. Hethersett Res put nine past Dereham Wanderers. Tom Frost was yet another player to score four times as Drayton won 5-1 at Wendene, Sam Lincoln added the fifth and there were goals for Jamie Duffield, Nicky Wood, and Paul Grothier as Dilham Cross Keys beat Costessey Sports Res 4-1.
