GAMES OFF

Marlbourough's game at Reepham Town and the County Sunday Junior Cup Final between Schoolhouse and Chilvers, have been called off due to waterlogged pitches. new dates have yet to be set.

IMPORTANT !!! VENUE CHANGE FOR PLAY OFF

Due to the constant rain over the past few days, and more forecast, the Division One play off between Vale Longo and Bayer FC will now take place on the 3G pitch at Easton College and NOT at Poringland. This promises to be an even contest. Longo missed out on automatic promotion on goal difference to Fiveways, whilst Bayer finished two points behind Sprowston Rovers. Kick off is 10.30am.

IT’S SPROWSTON SUNDAY AT THE DOUBLE

Division 2A champions Sprowston Sunday completed a League and Cup double after a superb performance saw them lift the County Intermediate Cup as they crushed previous holders Bentinck Arms 5-1. Sprowston were slow to start and fell behind after four minutes as Smith put the Lynn side ahead, but they responded well and were level within two minutes when an effort from Jamie Lawrence was adjudged to have crossed the line. With the game fairly even at this stage, Olly Bishop headed home a good free kick to put Sprowston ahead and Lawrence added his second before the break to give them a 3-1 interval lead. Josh Halliday made it four soon after the break and with his brother matt pulling the strings in midfield, Sprowston were looking really comfortable. With ten minutes left Kieran Patel was brought down as he bore down on goal, and after the referee sent the defender off, Matt Halliday crashed the twenty yard free kick into the top corner. This was a great performance from Sprowston, whose attitude and behaviour on the day was a credit to the league.

By this time next week, we will know the destination of the Premier Division title. Marlborough’s 8-1 victory at Unicorns saw them move to within five points of AFC Wanderers with two games left. They play Aylsham Sunday on Thursday evening (kick off 6.15) and then Reepham Town next Sunday, in games they must win. Acle Rangers finished their season with a single goal victory at home to Norwich Busmen.

In 1B, Spixworth Sunday were 6-4 winners at Norfolk CCSC who had goalkeeper Chris Brownbridge claiming two assists after some end of season positional switches. Craig Press 2, Adam Ford and a own goal were the Council scorers, who led 4-3 at the break. As for Spixworth it was their fourth win in five games, a great effort that took them away from the bottom of the table.

The last two games in 2A, brought wins for The Griffen and Stoke FC. The Griffen were 6-4 winners at home to Norman Wanderers Res whilst goals by Lewis Bush and Devon Briggs gave Stoke a 2-1 win at Green Man. Amos Bailey replied for the home side.

Hellesdon Res failed to gain the victory required at Riverside Rovers to take runners up spot in 3A.The game against the league champions ended in a 3-3 draw.

In 3B, Briston Wanderers were 5-2 winners at Taverham Utd, whilst DEF FC finished the season in sixth spot after a 2-0 win over Freethorpe.

The battle of the basement teams in 4A saw Sporting Longdale move off the bottom of the table. The Coltishall based side came from one down at the interval to win 4-1 courtesy of goals by Stewart Halton 2, Jamie Platten and Nick Clark.

Congratulations to Schoolhouse FC. They lifted the 4B title in their first season after a 6-0 (Chris Hall 3, Joe McCarthy, Will Vincent and Jake Imrie) win at Spixworth Res. Let’s hope they too can complete the double when they play in the County Sunday Junior Cup Final at Dereham next week

SPROWSTON SUNDAY LOOK FOR DOUBLE

Sprowston Sunday go in search of a League and Cup double this weekend as they face Bentnick Arms of Kings Lynn in the final of the Norfolk Intermediate Cup. The Norwich side have already taken the Division 2A title, but face a stiff task against a side that currently hold the trophy. Manager Darren Maxey knows a tough task lies ahead and is quoted as saying, "This is without doubt our hardest game and we go into it as big underdogs. However, as always, our lads will be looking to play our own game with the commitment and style that the management team demands.”The League sends Sprowston its best wishes for the Final which takes place at Dereham Town FC with kick off at 11am, so please come down and show your support.

FIVEWAYS, ACLE RANGERS RES AND SPROWSTON SUNDAY HAVE THAT CHAMPION FEELING

Many issues were settled throughout the league on a Sunday morning full of drama as the season nears its close. In the Premier Division, reigning champions Marlborough kept their nerve as they closed on leaders AFC Wanderers by beating Dog House 3-1 Jason Armes, Martyn Magee and an OG scored for the visitors whilst John Curtis scored the Dog House goal. Marlborough still have three games left in which they cannot afford to drop a point if they are to retain the title.

At Sloughbottom, Fiveways and Dussindale Rovers both had games where their season would be decided. In front of a large crowd, a strangely subdued Fiveways struggled to break down a Castlegate side that was giving them a run for their money. The home side took the lead early in the second half when a hopeful free kick by Olly Southgate was fumbled into his own net by Fiveways keeper Danny Moore. Fiveways though began to warm to the task and scored a deserved equaliser when Danny Howes fired into the roof of the net from the edge of the area to snatch a point. At this stage the point was enough to take Fiveways to the top of the division on goal difference from Vale Longo, a win for Dussindale however on the next pitch, in a game running five minutes behind could see them take the title. To the relief of Fiveways and the watching players and spectators from Vale Longo, visitors North Walsham had turned in a good performance to win 2-0. Well done to Fiveways on their title win and Vale Longo, who now go into the play off final against Bayer FC. You have to feel for a Dussindale side who have been in the top two for most of the season only to miss out on the last day. In the divisions other game, Ed Lake 2, and Kevin Oakley were on target as Aslacton finished their season with a 3-2 victory over Eaton FC. Scott Starling and Paul Dodimead replied for the visitors. In 1B, Champions Sprowston Rovers were beaten 2-0 at Norfolk CCSC. Goals from Ben Morgan and a first for the club for Ryan Higgins after three years of trying, were the men on target for the Council side. Spixworth Sunday had a 2-0 victory over Sprowston Wanderers.

In 2A, teams turned up to play at Rackheath Rec only to find that the pitches had not been marked out by the local council. Whilst one of the two games was called off by the referee, great credit goes to Sprowston Sunday, Deopham and especially referee David Jordan, who displayed a great deal of common sense and patience, whilst waiting for Sprowston to obtain a pitch marker allowing the game to then go ahead. Sprowston Sunday duly gained their reward as James Lawrence 4, Matthew Eves 3 and Josh Halliday all scored in a win that sees them take the title on goal difference from Hockering. Also in the division, Norman Wanderers Res were 3-0 victors over Stoke. Acle Rangers Res are Division 2B champions. Their 5-0 home win over Ribs Rovers gave them the point they required to secure the title.

In 3A, a single Finn Goodwin -Wright goal in the final minute gave Mad Moose a win at Norman Wanderers A and moved them up to third spot on completion of their season. They must now wait for Hellesdon Res to play their final game to see if that’s where they will stay. In the other game played in that division, Sporting Longdale were 5-1 winners over Constable Crusaders.

Neil Woolner 3, Kel Haywood 2, Jonny Callow and Chris Crampton all scored for Salhouse Rovers as they beat Unicorns Res in 3B. Sloughbottom Revolution won by the odd goal of five at Freethorpe and The Gordon scored five without reply against AFC Oak. Taverham United leapfrogged DEF FC in the table after beating them 5-1.

Despite a hat trick for Paul Clarke and a 6-2 victory over Phoenix Felthorpe, Manor Park finished the season in third spot on goal difference from runners up Brooke, but it has been a good first season for the club. Champions Bungay Town were 5-1 winners at Hockering Res. In 4B, Schoolhouse had to come from behind to beat Chapelfield Rovers 4-2, (Jake Imrie, Ben Watson, Richard Brett and Chris Hall) and now just need a point in their final game to take the title.

WANDERERS FINISH SEASON WITH FLOURISH

Easter Sunday brought some big results throughout the league as the season nears a climax. There was a vital win for Premier division leaders AFC Wanderers over title rivals Marlborough. The home side took a first half lead when Luke Tuttle converted from the spot, and soon after the interval, Matty Elwin increased the lead. Although Luke Durrant pulled a goal back for the reigning champions, AFC held on to win. The result means that AFC finish their season on 41 points, whilst Marlborough, currently on 30 points need to win their remaining four games to keep their title. Acle Rangers leapfrogged Dog House into fourth place after beating them 3-0, whilst there was a good win for Aylsham Sunday, 5-3 at home to Hellesdon.

1A remains intriguing. Vale Longo completed their season by being league leaders as they won 3-0 (Steve Churchill 2 and Paul Harvey) at Castlegates. They must now wait to see if Fiveways, who were 5-1 winners over Eaton FC, and Dussindale Rovers win their final game to knock them off of their perch. The Longo game though was marred by a serious injury to Gerry Archer. The club and the league wish him a speedy recovery. In 1B, runners up Bayer FC were 3-2 winners at Earlham Utd, whilst Sprowston Wanderers moved up to third spot after a 2-1 win at Prince of Denmark. Spixworth Sunday moved off of the bottom of the table after a thumping 5-1 win at St Faiths. Dave Waters scored for the home side.

I saw most of the top of the table clash at Hockering where a point for the home side would see them take the title. Their opponents, Sprowston Sunday happened to be the only side that can catch them. A goal from Jamie Lawrence gave the visitors a first half lead, and there were chances at both ends. A Liam Doyle header twenty minutes from time though settled a good competitive game in favour of Sprowston who now know a win in their final game will see them take the title on goal difference. Both sides played some good football and will be an asset to Senior football, and referee Richard Gostling was also outstanding.

In 3A, fourth placed Mad Moose closed the gap on third placed Hellesdon Res by beating them 2-0, whilst Dancing Farmers completed their season with a 2-2 draw at home to River Garden. In 3B, The Gordon were presented with the League Sporting Award for Feb/March before their game against Briston Wanderers. It turned out to be a bitter sweet day though for Wanderers as The Gordon scored in injury time to win 6-5, but with One Love beating Sloughbottom Revolution 4-3 (Ebus Ono 2, Kevin Gil and Nash Makuve) Briston were confirmed as 3B runners up. AFC Oak had a good 3-1 (Jermaine King, Rob Bridge, Ben Carver) over Salhouse Rovers and the game between Freethorpe and Taverham Utd ended all square with a goal apiece.

Brooke finished a good first season in the league by beating Whiterose Utd 4-0. Lewis Clarry 2, Alex Piggen and Ben Nolan all scored for the South Norfolk side, who must now wait to see if Manor Park can win their final game against Phoenix Felthorpe by a huge amount to take second place. William Wanderers moved back to the top of 4B after a 7-0 win at Salhouse Res. Daniel Childerhouse took his seasons tally to 31 by scoring four times, whilst further goals came from Matthew Nixon 2, and a 35th of the season for Aaron Nixon.

WANDERERS HIT BACK TO INCREASE LEAD AT TOP

AFC Wanderers came from 2-1 down against a good Acle Rangers side to increase their lead at the top of the Premier Division after eventually winning 3-2. As closest rivals Marlborough and The Grove were battling out a goalless draw on the next pitch in a dress rehearsal for the League Cup Final, AFC were made to work very hard to take the points. Luke Tuttle gave the home side the lead on half an hour, but Acle replied eight minutes later through Ricky Forder. After the break AFC keeper Duane Smith produced a brilliant save from a Peter Nobbs penalty, but the visitors did eventually go in front from a powerful Julian Bussell header. The home side though showed a determination to get back into the game and were rewarded as Tuttle added his second of the match. That goal was soon followed by a Liam Blofield strike that settled the game. Dog House bounced back from their cup semi final defeat last week by beating Reepham Town 5-3, with goals coming from John Curtis 2, Paul Timm, Robert Eastaugh and Scott Woodgate.

Game of the day in 1A, produced another dramatic twist at the top of the table as Vale Longo leapfrogged over Fiveways into second spot after beating them 2-1. Vale fell behind early on in the first half but goals from Gerry Archer and Steve Churchill in the second half and a superb point blank save from Mark Woods minutes from the end gave Vale the three points. Leaders Dussindale are on 40 points with one game to play and Vale are a point behind also with one game left, but Fiveways know that the title is in their own hands if they win their final two games. Windmill Wanderers will finish the season in fourth spot after scoring five without reply at Eaton FC and Norman Wanderers completed an up and down season with a 3-0 win at Horsford SC. At the bottom Aslacton made the long trip to North Walsham only to suffer a 2-0 defeat, but unless they suffer a disaster in their final game it will be The Otter that finish bottom of the table as they suffered a 2-1 reverse in their last game at The Castlegate. Bayer FC clinched runners up spot in 1B after beating Prince of Denmark 4-1. They must now wait to see who they will face in the play off final. St Faiths were also 4-1 (Jordan King 2, Carl Branson 2) winners as they overcame Haig FC, and Rose Tavern suffered a 3-2 (Oliver Bennison, Michael Robinson) defeat at the hands of Sprowston Wanderers. Damon Brown, Tom Blanch and Marcus Gee all found the net as Earlham Utd beat Spixworth Sunday 3-2.

Hockering missed the chance to take the Division 2A title as they suffered a surprise 3-0 home defeat to Norman Wanderers Res. They still need a point from their final game to make certain the trophy comes their way. If they don’t get that point, they will have to see if Sprowston Sunday, 7-0 winners over Stoke FC, can catch them. Deopham’s David Darkins grabbed a hat trick as his side beat Acle Wanderers 8-0. Further goals came from Lewis McKerell 2, Jonathan Oakley, John Parry and an OG, whilst The Griffen were 7-2 winners at Green Man. A point from their final game of the season will see Acle Rangers Res take the 2B title as the comfortably beat Sporting Farmhouse 8-1 to move level on points with leaders Moles Rest who have completed their season. Heartsease FC’s last game of the season saw them beat Poringland Res 8-1, but I would imagine that after two good seasons since joining the league, they may feel slightly disappointed at not being amongst the honours this year. Graham Carr 2, Jamie Daynes 2, Ben Lewis, Tom Whitmore, Sammy White and Jason Perry all scored for Heartsease, whilst Luke Casey grabbed the Poringland consolation. Hethersett left it to the final game of the season to record their first victory as they beat Maid Marian 3-0.

There was late drama in 3A as Mad Moose grabbed a last minute winner to defeat Constable Crusaders 3-2, whilst Sporting Longdale demolished a dispirited Reindeer side 18-0. 3B champions One Love Utd recorded a single goal victory against Unicorns Res and third placed Bell Inn suffered defeat in their final game of the season as they went down 5-3 at home to Sloughbottom Revolution. Zach Howe 2, Sam Howe, Dan Davies and Edward Kettle all scored for the visitors. Taverham Utd continue to climb the table after a 3-1 home win against DEF FC.

The runner up spot in 4A has gone down to the wire. As champions Bungay Town were beating Phoenix Felthorpe 8-1 second placed Brooke were being held to a 1-1 draw by a resurgent William Rovers. Ashley Farrow had given Rovers the lead before Sam Page levelled for the visitors. Brooke are now joined on 42 points by Manor Park who had Paul Clarke scoring four times as they beat Earlham Colney 5-0. Both sides have one game left with Brooke having a better goal difference of eight. Temples Property finished a decent season by scoring five at Whiterose Utd. With two games left, Schoolhouse are the new leaders of 4B, but my word they were given a scare by Salhouse Res who went into the interval with a two goal lead courtesy of Joe Russell and a decent Ryan Blyth effort. Schoolhouse got their act together after the break and pulled level midway through the second half before two late goals gave them three vital points. Jake Imrie, Josh Cullington 2 and Chris Hall scored for the home side. Chapelfield Rovers scored six (Abu Bakr Kolly, Hanif Whyte and 4 from Leon Campbell) as they beat Costessey Res and there was a 2-0 (Lucas Knight, Matthew Brighton) win for Windmill Elite at Spixworth Res.
