SEMI FINALS DECIDED

The Grove and Acle Rangers will contest this years Pink Un League Cup Final at Wroxham on May 16th after both sides won their respective semi finals this weekend. Two quality finishes by Sam Mallet capped a superb all round team performance by The Grove, who now face an in form Acle Rangers side who won 3-1 at Poringland, thanks to goals by Morgan, Foreman and Hayton, with Barnes replying for the home side.

One game took place in the Premier division and it produced an away victory for Marlborough who won 2-1 at Silver Fox.

In 1A, Norman Wanderers Res had a 4-2 home win over North Walsham Town and Hellesdon Athletic finished their season beating Rose Valley 5-1. The big game in 1B saw second placed Earlham Utd beat morning leaders Costessey Sports 3-2 to take over at the top of the division on goal difference. Aylsham Sunday thumped Sprowston Wanderers 9-1 to go third and Drayton won by the odd goal of nine at Haig FC. Hillside OB completed their fixtures going down 4-3 to Prince of Denmark.

Aslacton took a step nearer to 2A leaders Reepham Town after winning 3-1 at Acle Wanderers. This leaves the South Norfolk side three points behind but with two games left. The Castlegate scored four without reply at Deopham and Vale Longo were held to a 4-4 draw by Plasterers Arms for whom Fogarty 2, Watson and Kemp scored. Needing to score at least eleven goals to pip Old Catton to the 2B title, St Faiths made a valiant attempt as they beat Acle Rangers Res 9-2, great effort but how they must rue losing their previous two games.

Newsman Celtic won the final game of the 3A season, beating The Otter 3-2. After goals from Budd and Chaplin saw them go two down, 3B champions Bayer FC stormed back to win 5-2 whilst Taverham moved level on points with second placed Mischief Tavern after beating Aylsham Sunday Res 3-2.

In 4A, Sporting Longdale Res beat Silver Fox Res 3-2, whilst it's well done to Freethorpe Sunday who took second place in 4B after winning 5-4 at Constitution. Tom Whitmore scored the only goal of the game as champions Heartsease FC won 1-0 at Salhouse Res, whilst a hat trick from Sam Brewster and further strikes by Neil McGreevy and Robert Bridge ensured a winning finish to the season for AFC Oak as they beat Wendene 5-1.

ROYAL OAK LIFT NORFOLK SUNDAY JUNIOR CUP

4A side Sprowston Royal Oak took the Sunday Junior Cup at Dereham this morning when they beat Attleborough Town Sunday 2-0. League registration secretary Will Jeffery saw the match and sends this report.

Sprowston Royal Oak deservedly lifted the Norfolk Sunday Junior Cup as they overcome a game Attleborough Town side.  The first half saw Sprowston on top with fullback Daniel Green pushing forward on several occasions.  Matty Eves the Royal Oak centre forward was prominent and had an effort that skidded just wide of the target.  A succession of Royal Oak corners came to nothing, however the match came to life on 34 minutes as Royal Oak broke the deadlock when a through ball eventually found its way to Matty Eves and he kept his cool as he rounded Attleborough  ‘keeper Neil Lashmar and stroked the ball home to give his side a deserved lead.  The Norwich Sunday League team had a chance to increase their lead on 42 minutes, however Kieran Patel miss controlled the ball when through on goal.

The second half started in a similar vein as the first half finished with Royal Oak continuing to press forward, a good run from Darren Maxey ended with Matty Eves just failing to find the target at the far post, he then had another effort heading just over on the hour mark.  In a rare attack Attleboroughs Phil King produced a headed effort that crept just wide of the post.  As Royal Oak continued to push forward, Steve Best in the Attleborough defence made several important interceptions, however the result was sealed on 73 minutes when a mistake by Mark Fraser let in man of the match Matty Eves and he made no mistake as he once again rounded the ‘keeper and finished with aplomb to net his and Royal Oaks second goal.  Attleborough battled bravely but were unable to carve out any clear cut chances as the game drew to a close, however Royal Oak eventually ran out worthy winners of the trophy. Referee Richard Gosling had a fine match in the middle, ably assisted by Colin Harris and Daryl Godbold.
