EMPSON DOUBLE HELPS WANDERERS TO DIVISION THREE TITLE

With the season rapidly coming to a conclusion they were some very interesting results in the quest for honours this weekend.

In the Premier Division, Acle Rangers warmed up for next weeks Sunday Senior Cup Final with a 6-1 win over Poringland. Rangers, who have four games left, can still pip Schoolhouse to second spot. In the divisions other game, Sprowston Wanderers hit double figures as they beat Bungay Town.

In Div 1, Phoenix needed a win against Hewett OB’s to all but clinch the title, but two goals from Ashley Smith put paid to that for the time being. Brooke, who beat Norman Wanderers 3-1 are now level on points with Phoenix with both teams having one game left. The only difference in the league record of the two teams is that Phoenix have conceded seven goals fewer. Phoenix face Longdale in their final game whilst Brooke face Hewett OB’s. The Middle Green who have two games left, can also finish on 35 points after drawing 1-1 at Longdale Rovers but at present have a vastly inferior goal difference. An interesting weekend ahead coming up.

Woolpack have the destiny of Div 2 in their own hands after today’s narrow 4-3 (Tom Blake 2,┬áLiam Moriaty 2) win over Vale Longo. A win next week over the only team that can catch them, Drayton Dazzlers will give them the title. Dazzlers, who beat Marlborough 4-0 now know they have to win their remaining five games to thwart Woolpack. Mischief completed their season by winning 7-2 (Oliver Johnson 3, Lee Askew, Theo Chamberlin, Luca Elia, David Kiss) at Mettingham, whilst Hethersett were 2-1 winners over Briston, thanks to two goals from Adam Waters.

Congratulations go to Norman Wanderers A. Two first half goals from Shane Empson plus a goal in time added from Ben Atkins gave them the Div 3 title. Good to see a side that has come through from the Under 19’s still going strong and being successful.

DCS Rapid ensured second spot with a two goal win over Silver Fox, but will be left with a feeling of what might have been after last weeks surprise defeat. MC Rovers scored five without reply as they won at Acle Rangers Res, as did Bungay Town at home to East Tuddenham.

No games were played in Div’s 4 & 5 but in the Under 19’s, arguably the biggest game of the day saw Long Stratton face leaders Scole United at home in a South Norfolk derby with added spice as Long Stratton began the day as the only side that could overtake Scole for the title. The game in the end was goalless meaning a win for Scole in their last game, will confirm them as champions. Hethersett Ath completed their season with George Allison and Jordan Rolf scoring as they beat Acle Rangers 2-0, whilst two Tinashe Madzimur goals and a James Brooksby effort helped Hellesdon finish their season with a 3-1 victory at Mulbarton
