FOUR GOAL FOREMAN BREAKS HEWETT HEARTS

Daniel Foreman was the toast of Acle last night as his four goal blitz stole the show in a pulsating League Cup Final at the FDC last night in front of a crowd of over 200. Scoring his first from a free kick to put Acle Rangers ahead the centre back was then to the fore when it came to defending as Hewett proved their worth by pressing for an equaliser. They were rewarded five minutes before the break when Matt Giles stroked home a penalty, but on the stroke of half time, it was Foreman again who found the net with a free kick which was an exact replica of the first. The second half saw both teams create chances as the action flowed from end to end and Hewett deservedly equalised with a superb Darrell Delaney strike from outside the box. It was now game on as both sides pressed for a winner, but the big turning point in the game came with fifteen minutes left when a challenge on Scott Foreman in the Acle Rangers goal resulted in a Hewett player receiving a second yellow. Old Boys refused to buckle though and still gave as good as they got and went agonisingly close to grabbing the winner shortly before the end.

The game moved into extra time and Acle started the period with strong intent and put the tie beyond the reach of Hewett within the space of five minutes of the first period and it was that man Foreman again who headed home from close range following a rebound off the crossbar and within three minutes he added his and Acle’s fourth. The extra man was now proving decisive and it was no surprise when Tom Columbine added a fifth as he rose to head home a corner.

There were many very good performances from both sides in an enthralling encounter that was a credit to the League, but there could only have been one Man of The Match and the sponsor Oli Smith of Wensum Print quite rightly gave the award to Daniel Foreman.

So Acle Rangers lifted the trophy for the fourth time, but make no mistake, they were pushed all the way by a very good Division 1 side in Hewett Old Boys who must surely now go onto to build on their performance.
