BATTLING QUEBEC FAIL TO REAP REWARD

Quebec Rovers failed to reach the final of the Norfolk Sunday Senior Cup when they went down 2-1 at a windswept Beaconsfield, home of cup holders Camden Tavern. The Yarmouth side took the lead in the 5th minute with a header from a corner, but from then on the sides were evenly matched, both trying to play football in horrible conditions. Richard Brett equalised for the visitors with a short on the turn that decieved the home keeper and for a while Quebec looked the more likely side, but after 70 minutes a Camden free kick from out wide curled into the box and somehow found its way into the back of the net. It was heartbreaking for the young Norwich side and they could'nt recover, but the club and its supporters were a credit to the Norwich Sunday League. The all Norwich clash between Delaneys and Marlborough was postponed.

Back to league matters where many games failed to survive the weather. In the Premier, Norman Wanderers closed the gap at the top to just a point after a 4-3 victory at Prince of Denmark. Marlborough though still have a game in hand. Acle Rangers had a good 2-0 win at Poringland.

The only 100% record in the whole of the Sunday League was finally ended when AFC Wanderers went down 4-3 at Aylsham Black Boys. Eaton Beehive won 3-1 at Farmhouse, whilst Freemasons Arms lost 13-2 at home to Hainford YCOB. Wymondham Rangers take over at the top of 1B after thumping Poringland Res 12-0 and Manor Park won 3-1 at Hillside OB.

Only three games were played in 2A, where Windmill Wanderers moved up to top spot after a 3-0 victory at Newsman Celtic. Normans Res scored eight without reply against Earlham Colney and North Walsham OB made the long journey home pointless, after losing 3-1 at Aslacton. In 2B leaders Norwich CEYMS surprisingly dropped a point in a 2-2 draw at home to lowly Hethersett Res, Haig FC beat Ketts Tavern 4-1, whilst Horsford SC and Ex Mile Cross shared eight goals equally.

In 3A, Plasterers Arms recorded an 8-2 win over Coltishall Colts, whilst Deopham beat Green Man 3-2. Brickmakers had a 5-2 win over Temple Bar and Mad Moose went on the rampage beating Mousehold 7-0. Aylsham Sunday Res had a good 4-1 win at Taverham United Res and Spixworth won 4-0 at AFC Rompers. Costessey Sports Res and Wymondham Res fought out a 1-1 draw.

Only two games in 4A where Coahmakers Arms beat Pulham United 4-0 and Upton won 3-1 at Sporting Longdale. AFC Fifers went up to Mundesley Sunday and won 6-1 and Thorpe Marriot beat Dynamo Denmark 5-4. Hethersett "A" had a good 5-3 victory over Dancing Farmers.
