SUPER DELANEYS FIGHTBACK TO REGAIN TROPHY

Delaneys lifted the Sunday Senior Cup this morning after a dramatic comeback in the sunshine at Carrow Road. Yarmouth side and cup holders Camden Tavern settled quicker than the Norwich team and almost went ahead when Butler's shot came back off the post and into keeper Jacksons arms. Three minutes later Camden took the lead in controversial circumstances when Thompson went down easily in the box from an innocuous challenge. It seemed a poor decision. Cockrill scored from the spot. It was 2-0 to the Yarmouth side after thirty minutes when Todd pounced onto a weak backpass to produce a good finish. Timms had a good chance for Delaneys just before the break, but fired over from a good position. Delaneys took control after the interval and in the 58th minute Andy Eastaugh rose to head home and reduce the arrears. Try as they might, Delaneys could not find a way through for the equaliser and Camden keeper Casey made a good block to deny King a last minute goal. With three of the five added on minutes gone Delaneys were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Camden area. Substitute Neil Simmonds, who had only been on the pitch for eight minutes, stepped up to send a glorious shot into the top corner and send the Norwich side's fans wild with delight and the game into extra time. Camden were reduced to ten men in the first minute of extra time, when Louis Turner was sent off for a second bookable offence, then a minute later Karl Fox crashed a shot off of the underside of the Camden crossbar. The Yarmouth side were now looking very tired and conceded another free kick on the edge of their penalty area. Once again Simmonds stepped up to produce an exact replica of his previous effort and put the Norwich side 3-2 ahead. Camden had no choice but to throw men forward now and produced a couple of scrambles in the Delaneys area, but from a quick break Karl Fox broke clear and although Casey made a good stop, Fox had another go and his shot was cleared off the line by the hand of Luke Goreham, who was sent off. Simmonds stepped up to take the penalty but the keeper palmed it away, only for Ollie King fire it back into the net to make it 4-2. The second period of extra time saw Furlong's thumping drive hit the crossbar and after more good work from the impressive Paul Timms, Ollie King made it 5-2 and ensured the the Norwich side regained the trophy. Ben Furlong was named sponsors Man of the Match. Congratulations to Delaneys.
