After what has seemed like a never ending break, the 59th season of the restructured Norwich & District Sunday League finally got underway this weekend. In the Premier Division, Acle Rangers got off to a perfect start as they scored seven without reply at Horsford United. Another of this seasons fancied sides, Schoolhouse, were being held 2-2 at half time in their game at Poringland Wanderers but ran out 5-2 winners in the end. Liam Clarke scored the only goal of the game as Sprowston Wanderers’ return to the top flight ended in a win over farmhouse, and in the “North Norfolk Derby” new boys Trimingham Pilgrims ran out 3-1 winners at Dilham Cross Keys.

In the First Division, after just missing out on promotion last season, Brooke made their intentions very clear for this season as they thumped Windmill Wanderers 9-0. Owen Page hit the net five times whilst there was a pair each for Dan king and James Daniels. Longdale Rovers started the season well, beating Norman Wanderers 5-2 and there was a good start for Hellesdon as they won 4-1 at home to Norwich CEYMS. There was a hat trick for Callum Speck and a goal for Lee Roper as Hewett OB won 4-2 at Rose Athletic, whilst a single Shaun Moss goal was enough for Aslacton to beat The Middle Green. Woolpack their season off to a flier in

Division Two as they scored six without reply at home to Hethersett Athletic and Drayton Dazzlers also kept a clean sheet when scoring five at Mad Moose. Mischief FC ran out 5-1 winners over Vale Longo, whilst Sprowston Ath Wildcats beat Mettingham 2-1.

In Division Three, DCS Rapid will be happy with their start to the season as they won 5-0 at Bungay Town Res and it will be a similar story for Brooke Res who won 5-1 at Newsman Celtic. Norman Wanderers A overcame MC Rovers by the odd goal in seven as did Silver Fox in beating Hempnall. East Tuddenham came from 3-1 down to claim a point in a 4-4 draw at Dynamo FC.

After winning only one game all of last season, Eaton Park Corinthians will be more than happy to have started this season well in Division Four as they beat Rose Athletic Res 4-2. Woodton United also got off to a winning start winning a see-saw tussle with Nelson Athletic 4-3 and a single goal was enough for Sporting Iceni to take three points at AFC Norwich. Hethersett Res drew 1-1 with FC Viking whilst Rackheath Rangers and Cellar House also shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Only one game took place in Division Five and brought about a first ever league win for AG Athletic who won 4-0 at FC Viking Res.

In the Under 19 Division, James Bemrose hit five, Ryan Scammell 3 and there was also a goal for Braden Whiting as Long Stratton put nine passed Rockland United. Old Catton were 5-1 winners over Heigham Park Rangers and Cringleford won 3-2 in a close game with Acle Rangers
